Need some hope and general pointers in the right direction,
trying to learn about making emulators and most people said that the Chip8 was a good place to start.

That's quite a big article on how to start and where to look for resources. You could also have a look at the open source emulators, just to have a little peak on how others manage their code.
Or steal it and make it closed source and name it yourself, and since you did all that might as well charge for it too :P

The original source of all the emulators is still freely available - moreover, he openly admits that they're ports of other software. He merely closed the source on the ones he ported himself, on his builds. :P

He still shares his resources, and even emulation cores and libraries he uses for his projects - I don't see an issue there.

In any case, his How to is still an interesting read for a beginner - it shows the basics and it shows where to look for resources, which is what the OP asked for. Let's keep personal dislikes out of this one. ;)
