I recommend you to pick dragon quest monster series instead. for some reason I cannot like pokemon at all.

I'm probably gonna say the same thing everybody said but more posts can influence more amrite?

So the answer is Yes and No. It's a multi-answer cause it really depends on the story for the most part.
Pokemon X and Y, didn't have a good story, and if you're a story guy, then nope.
I recommend you go play the GBA or DS games free and see if anything other than the story can entertain you.
If it does, then you can play all the games imo. The games keep getting better in game mechanics so that should be good.
