Hey everyone. I’m a newbie to home brew and stuff and hacking in general. However, homebrew, emulators, backups (being totally honest here), and save editing (among other things) appear as “fun,” and something I’d like to do now or in the future when things are more developed or user friendly.

My qualm is, hacking/homebrew seems to warrant a ban on the Nintendo switch console. I have one now, but I do not want to risk the ban. Sure online isn’t amazing, but I most certainly be interested and keeping splatoon online and other things to play with friends. Also, I’m more than excited for classic nes titles in a Netflix like fashion. I was debating whether or not to buy a purely offline switch for this reason to get into homebrew, but I wanted to gather opinions on whether or not I should. I can buy a sole console for less than $200 and do that. However, is it a smart thing to do, or should I just wait considering I’ve heard things abt emunand and things like that (but I’m not entirely sure what those are if I’m honest).

Please be easy on me, I’m not the smartest person about these things, just want to gather more information and understand. Thanks for even reading this!

Also I would suggest using a second account. I personally think 2 switch/account is best option right now if you want to play online or download e-shop games. It all really goes back to how much you care about online play and e-shop.

I think that was the route I was going to go anyway. I heard some people who used the same account and got banned on all. Thanks for the reminder tho

You can get just the tablet for $170 on ebay
I’ll loook into eBay too. That’s a good price. I should have that amount of money soon

I also bought a second Switch just to be on the safe side. Having only one Switch makes you doubt every step you take (shall I run this payload? install this homebrew? will this brick my Switch? will I get banned?). So just for the peace of mind and also the freedom to do whatever I wanted with the first one I bought the second one.
I'd suggest you save some money and get a second one for backup!

GBAtemp should be legally obligated to ban them, as its against the law to collect information from users under 13 because of COPPA. :tpi:

VR is like 3D TVs in my opinion it's cool and all but it doesn't have enough great content.

VR had the chance to integrate with existing games and tech but VR companies said "NO, I WANT MY SHIT TO BE STANDALONE AND MY GAMES EXCLUSIVE TO FACEBOOK"

Back when Oculus Rift was still starting out and being demoed around, they modded existing games to use it as a 360° immersive screen thing and that was AMAZING.

The tech isn't there for affordable power enough VR headsets at a good market value yet sadly, oculus had a good idea but didn't have enough funds for marketing iirc

But now it's "can I use my VR set with my racing games, that would be neat?" "ONLY IF YOU USE OUR DILDOSTICK CONTROLLERS AND RUN THE GAME ON OUR ANDROID-UNDERPOWERED BRICK"

The tech to have quality VR goggles at an affordable price is here, but every set has to have 4 additional controllers and be standalone.

These are the same type of gamers that spend $2,000 on a GPU when a $600 GPU gives nearly the same outcome which is what the market looks at for them to do spend more on unneeded bs

If we're talking AAA titles a vr headset would be priced at nearly the same cost as a midrange gaming pc maybe even double
