i like the idea of getting a 2000 cus i can use CFW(or at least thats my understanding) and it still has the older screen(apparently the psp 3000 screen sucks or has scanlines etc??).. the 3000 on the other hand has a built in mic, and can output to any tv(the 2000 couldnt output pspgames and homebrew to crt tvs)... which is cool.... i was also wondering, how much of a hassle is it to deal with using HEN... so you have to boot up the psp intothe XMB everytime and THEN reboot into hen mode? any input is appreciated!

Everything depends on your intentions. If you plan on experimenting with the hardware and customizing it to a huge degree, getting an early model PSP-2000 is a far better option, since you are always capable to CPR it back to life with a Pandora battery when things go sour (8B and earlier Data Codes - check the sticker inside the battery compartment). Not only that, with this model, you can use custom IPL, so that your hack is permanent. If it isn't the early model though, there's no good reason to get the PSP-2000 over the 3000.

If you just want a PSP, a 3000 is perfectly fine, but keep in mind that if you'll be over firmware 6.20, you will be unable to use a Perm Patch and will have to use Fast Recovery each boot or resort to Sleep Mode.

As far as I know, the upper-hand the 3000 has is the built-in microphone and a high-quality display, but I personally valued an unbrickable system over a "fancy" one and bought a PSP-2000 and later a microphone-equipped remote, making it on pretty much equal footing with the 3000 features-wise.

i DID read the stickys btw.. but i still have some questions.

If i were to get a psp3000 and mod it. theres absolutely no way to downgrade to 5.00 m33-6 correct?(for my older 1.50 homebrew and emulators, and also some of my plugins that i know wont work on these newer fw's) looks like pandora and hellcats only works on 1000/2000... and my second question is, if im gonna buy a 2000 off of ebay/craigslist, how can i avoid the TA-088v3 models???

M33 and such worked on cIPL, which does not work on models later than halfway through the 2K series.

However the 6.x firmwares have PRO and such, which have all the features of M33 and more, minus the 1.5 kernel homebrew (though most 1.5 emulators are way outdated and have better modern versions that run on current CFWs, older plugins got updated, etc.).

ah cool. well i think im gonna go with the 2000 model at any rate. and when you said "models later than halfway through the 2K series." you are referring to the TA-088v3 board models?

is there a way detect whether a 2000 has a TA-088v3 board or not? cus i plan on getting the psp off of ebay(or maybe craigslist)

The big question is, why would you *want* to be on 5.00 M33? The Pro is far superior in every way.

That said, the general rule is that you cannot downgrade lower than the stock firmware of your system - in the 3000's case it's 6.xx, not exactly sure which one - it depends on the date of production. This automatically rules out any 5.00 dreams you may have... ;)

well like i said, its more that i would like the OPTION to be able to downgrade(for 1.5 kernel support, and some plugins that have issues with newer fw's.. FuSa for example) which has lead me to agree with what you originally said about getting a 2000. so now that ive decided to get an early 2000 model id just like some advice about it. with the early 2000 models it doesnt matter what fw its on when i get it right? cus i can downgrade to whatever i want at that point? and how can i avoid accidently buying one of the later 2000 models.. is there a way to tell?

You can upgrade and downgrade to your heart's content, and in case of issues, you always have the option of using a Pandora battery if for whatever reason the system bricks on you.

The way to find out the model is either by using PSP-Ident to check the mainboard version or to open the battery compartment, remove the battery and check the Data Code, which is situated above the serial number of the console.

Any Data Numbers lower or equal to 8B will be the early model, 8C has a 50/50 chance of being the new motherboard, anything over 8C is definitely the new model.

That said, do try Pro first. The compatibility with old plugins appears to be just fine unless used on the PSP Go (with FuSa, for example) and there's a whole lot of revised plugins that do the same thing. 5.00 M33 is outdated in my opinion, I've got an early 2000, I'm on 6.60 PRO-C and I'm incredibly satisfied with it.

Just keep in mind what I said earlier - downgrading lower than the stock firmware of the system *is* hazardous. Consider 5.00 to be your cut-off point, unless you find online what was the stock firmware of your particular model. It's actually not as hard as you might think - a lot of sites keep track of that.

U won't get 1.5 kernel without the old fat psp AFAIK anyway.
2000 is best imo as long as it is an earlier model. 1.5 kernel isn't anything to worry about anymore. Also the added RAM on k2 allows better emulators etc than the 1k.
Always being able to fall back on Pandora is a must if you ask me. Personally 5.00m33-6 has always been the most stable. The mem stick speed hack is an added bonus too. Whatever firmware u use is just a matter of personal preference though.
U could also choose to stay on official firmware and play signed games and homebrew. Cfw is much better though imo.
Good luck.

there is another cfw, the name of which i can't recall right now, that has a 1.5 homebrew plug-in. i've been told it works rather well. but i also recall reading complaints that this cfw was not very good when compared to the pro series.

i'm sure rydian or vato could chime in to provide the name of this other cfw. i'm far to lazy to dig through hundreds of PMs just to uncover the name. -=P

1.5 kernel isnt anything to worry about???? it sure seemed like the last time i was looking into updating my emulators sometime last year that most of them still needed the 1.5 kernel.. like gameboy and nes and snes etc etc... i use a lot of emulators on my psp

gameboy, nes, and snes have emus that run on pro-b/c. there really are only a handful of obscure projects which were never updated for the "slim". it seems that you are running very old emulators on an old 1.5 kernel.

Yeah most of the emulators for the PSP were updated a long time ago (still during the M33/Gen war days) to run on 3.x and above. It's only some projects that were never updated that still need 1.5 (which is ancient now). The major popular ones for home/portables (snes, genesis, master system, gameboy/color, GBA, etc.) all work on modern things.

I think the general opinion is get a 2000 model. You'll be better off with it if your gonna install CFW on it. I bought a 2000 model and i'm very happy with it although I can't figure out why it doesn't charge when plugged into the power point.

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"

Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
