i used an autorun.inf file for one of my blank discs. it's set up to show a custom icon and long name. the name worked, but however, instead of the icon it was meant to show, it showed this white page-like icon. what did i do wrong??

What software did you use to create the icons, and if so, what was the format/file type originally?

Here's an example of what your "AUTORUN.INF" file should look like:

Code:
[autorun]
open=file.exe
icon=file.ico

Replace 'file.exe' and 'file.ico' with your filenames.

The autorun.inf file also can have:

Code:
[Autorun]
icon=autorun.ico
label=NAME_TO_SHOW_on_EXPLORER

by example my Medicat drive is shown as:

1704414462898.png

with my autorun.ico file on the root of the disc

i made it with paint 3d, then converted it to .ico with ms paint, i lowered the resolution, but it still didn't work. my CAT_VIDS_ 4_U DVD is like this:
[autorun]
icon=catlogo.ico
label=CAT_VIDS_4_U
but it didn't show the icon.

MS paint can not save as ICO file, you need a real editor, like Paint.NET or GIMP.

wait, what size? :wacko: and is it the same size as the .icos? :unsure:
Only on Windows 11 and not for the Disc one.

I think ICO files should not be greater than 64X64 for disc, I am unsure.

mine was 30 something x 30 something.

briefly googling it, it seems like windows 7+ doesn't like icon files lower res than 64x64, so experiment with 32x32 and 64x64

looking at the icon files for some of my old physical PC games, they all seem to load fine at 32x32
