Hello everyone!

A few days ago, I ordered a Japanese 3ds. I just got in the mail today and guess what, it is still on firmware 1.0.0-0J.

So I though I'd go ahead and buy a gateway. Thing is, I don't have any game for my Japanese 3ds, nor it is nearly impossible to get them, without importing them and waiting for a long time for a game to arrive.

So my question, is it possible to update the console to firmware version 4.5, without the use of a game?

Thanks in advance!

No, you will need a game that needs fw version 4.0 up to 4.5. Any other method will probably get you to the latest firmware. Precaution: Stay offline until you update to 4.x.

Don't worry - there's no shortage of 4.1-4.5 games on the preowned market. You can grab any of those and Gateway will work just fine, even if it's not 4.5 - you can update to 4.5 from that point using a ROM.

Stay offline on SysNAND, period. Even when you have a NAND backup, it's just not worth the risk of having to downgrade. Keep your Online settings on EmuNAND. ;)

Err... I'm pretty sure the online settings are shared between NANDs.

Thanks for the messages everyone! Now I'll need to import a 4.5 game. Does anyone have an idea which cheap games has the 4.5 firmware update?

Thanks!

Correct. To counter this you make 1 real connection in emuNAND, then 3 fake ones in sysNAND. Bam, no connectivity on sysNAND!

You can also make your real connection in emunand, and then just delete it in sysnand. I don't know about 3DS, but on WiiU having a fake connection set up leads to a bunch of annoying nag popups you have to dismiss over and over again, so just deleting may be the easiest thing.

Sorry for intrusion... but why gw not work below 4.x? Why the gw team not port the hack to lower fw?

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
