I am an impatient and lazy schmuck. I was planning to buy the N3DSXL on release, but there's a few things that I'm concerned with, primarily Gateway support.

There's a local seller who has A Link Between Worlds edition 3DS XL with firmware 8.1 on it for $135. I own a Gateway but no console at the moment. So, I am eliciting opinions - should I pull the trigger on this one or wait?

Pros with ALBW 3DSXL* I can downgrade the firmware and start playing games now
* With downgraded firmware comes the easy, offline exploit (the big one for me)
* 9.5 emunand support with GW3.0.4.
* Decent resell value

Cons with ALBW 3DSXL
* It ain't the new 3DS XL
* It's gold and may be distracting?

Pros with N3DS XL
* It's the newest system: c-stick, processor upgrades, auto-brightness, etc.

Cons with N3DS XL
* No Gateway support at the moment, no news as to when, and I don't want to drop $90 on Sky to play.
* Any exploit they release may require wifi every time you want to enter Gateway mode
* It's not immediately in front of my face.

I have N3DS XL and until now its kind off waiste. I am still using my OLD 3DS XL with gateway.

You could buy the old 3DS XL and play with gateway for some time until gateway releases N3DS XL support then you can sell your 3DS XL and buy N3DS XL.
For sure you can get like 90$ for the old 3DS XL by that time ? So at the end you lost like 45$, but got to play tons of games.

"...c-stick, processor upgrades, auto-brightness, etc. " At this moment this features are nice but not must have.

That's what I'm thinking too. My feeling is that a downgraded ALBW 3DSXL would hold some value even after N3DSXL release; I may be able to sell it for what I paid, if not slightly more. *shrug*

If you're a collector, that's not a bad price for it. You could probably turn around and sell it for the same price or more if you change your mind.

Gamestop has a new 3ds kiosk out in stores, so you could go try it out first hand and see what your impression of it is. I tried it and I like it. I think I'm one of a dozen people that really enjoy the 3d, so the eye tracking is lovely for me.

We also don't know how N3DS support is going to be. Maybe it lacks some features ?

If you lose some money by selling it then its still worth it. Let say you lose 40$ and played 3 games that you liked :) average 3DS game price is 40$?

I personally would just go with the 3DS XL. The N3DS is pointless IMO.

Depends. I'm personally really into Smash, and I play it very, very often with my friends. Having the C-Stick is a huge plus for me (well, not yet because Gatewait, but whatever). And if you like the smaller variant of the 3DS, going from glossy-fingerprint mess to matte is a really nice change. The speed difference is VERY noticable, and the web browser is actually usable, which is awesome for Pokemon when I want to check a bulbapedia entry or something. Plus faceplates, I'm already hooked on the things. Love them to bits.

Huh. I don't play Smash, but since I use the non-XL 3DS I might consider it.

I'd definitely wait for Gateway on this one though, having it in my hands but only being able to mess around in system apps is killing me. Didn't sell off my old 3DS though, so I can still use that one just fine.

boy, you really are impatient. :lol:

If you could update the OP (for others who may read this),
Additional Pros with N3DS XL
FaceTracking(for autotracking 3d effect),speed/multicore increases for game loading , Enhanced/Exclusive game content, built in Amiibo support

There may be others.
