Hacking A bit confused: questions about r4i Gold rts

So I'm looking to buy an flash cart and I had this R4i Gold 3DS RTS in mind.

I have a DS and a DS Lite. This flash cart should work on both, but do I need to change the software if I pull it out of the DS and put it into the DS Lite?

Also, this Wood software. Do I need to install it and update it myself? If so, where are the guides on how to do this for the R4i Gold 3DS RTS?

Yeah, the R4i Gold 3DS RTS is a suggested one.
You can download the latest wood firmware here. Just copy all the files in the folder into the root of your MicroSD card.
