android needs to be "hacked" aswell...
Not quite. Android already does a lot of the stuff you need jailbreak for on iOS by itself. And popular devices (to be honest, any but the most unpopular devices really) get a lot of custom ROMs with built-in user root access. It's nice, nicer than on iOS.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Not really. Root needs to be developed for phones and their build, not system itself.
Well, actually both but let's not derail it into Android rant on iOS forum.
Not exactly.

Root is a part of Android, regardless of you having access to it or not. What is developed for specific models is a way to inject the proper su binary and a root management system such as SuperSU, Superuser, etc. It IS often injected using an exploit, as much as iOS. It's not something most devices have by default, although some do.

Thanks for correcting me. Some phones come pre-rooted so it's kinda confusing.

ye but you need "haxorz" to gain root privileges
Yeah. It doesn't take too long though.

Unpopular models often get little to no community support. Say, the Samsung Galaxy Young (GT-S6310N). I owned one of those (amazing how I can remember so many model numbers and names, but can't remember half of what happens in my life). There's a build of the CWM recovery, but NANDdroid backups don't work properly, and... uh... there are basically no third-party ROMs.

V3 of Phoenix jailbreak is released. This just fixes the custom offset settings which will be of no use to most people, but people may as well upgrade anyway. You can install the .ipa straight over V2.

As an aside, my natural inclination is to support open platforms but the refusal of so many Android vendors to release Android updates for their devices leaves a bitter taste. For all Apple's faults, they support legacy devices with new iOS updates for as long as possible. iOS 10 dropped many devices simply because they dropped support for 32-bit.

Can't you reflash its stock ROM through ODIN3? That works fine for me. After that, just reset from its recovery.

No, however Phœnix will have the be reinstalled every 7 days.
The jailbreak has to be reinstalled by opening the Phoenix app upon every reboot.
Is this true? I thought I read on r/jailbreak that the 7 day licence renewal didn't apply to Phoenix.

The line between semi-unteathered and semi-teathered is getting thinner.

What if you have a dev account? Can you just sign it for a year or something?
