so, wat exactly does the 3.4 update do? miichannel new features? wiishop channel?menu? any new things? wii speak support??

"According to the changes in the agreement form, the new firmware update will automatically remove modded save files. Not only that, but it also blocks the Twilight Hack version 0.1beta1. Not everything is gloom and doom though, it does really improve other features of the Wii. Here's what's new:

* USB keyboard support in Mii Channel
* Enhanced parental controls
* Twilight Hack version 0.1beta1 cannot be copied to the console.
* Improved SD card read/write speed
* Improved disc reading"

you can read more: http://wii.qj.net/Trouble-for-Wiibrew-Wii-...g/49/aid/126366

The improved disc reading and sd card read/write speed sounds interesting.... Hope to get those two things from the update and not the blocking of the twilight hack! lol
edit: Then again improved disc reading could mean they killed the backuplauncher!

yeah, there was a fix for the october 23rd update within a day for people who had a cIOS installed and a fix 2-3 days later for people without a cIOS installed

just relax and let the coders do what they do best

Ok, because I'm tired of seeing that same question over and over and over and over, I'm going to make this very, very, VERY, friggin' clear.

IF YOU HAVE 3.3v2 OR BELOW, NINTENDO WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE YOUR WII, EVEN IF YOU ARE CONNECTED TO WIICONNECT24.

FROM WHAT HAS BEEN REPORTED, NINTENDO WILL ONLY AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE YOUR WII FROM NOW ON IF AND ONLY IF YOU UPDATED TO 3.4.

PLEASE STOP ASKING THIS QUESTION

How can we make this more clear?
Just because it says they can does not mean they will.
The agreement said they could before! They merely reworded it to be more inclusive!
This part of the agreement was always
there!

So, as long as I keep my Wii at 3.2U, I don't have to worry about Nintendo installing updates behind my back, right?

I have the same question? Can anyone confirm that on version 3.2 you wont get auto-updates?

I got 3.2E and I got the blinking blue this morning. So no it didn't update.
They require that you press "Update" to work.

Yes. PLEASE get this correct people. None of these updates are 'automatic'. Every single one has required you to manually initiate the update through either the Wii settings panel or the update message sent to you. This includes 3.4 as well. I repeat, the update is NOT automatic and will never install itself without your prior consent.
They just updated their privacy clause which says they will now have the ability to auto-send updates (one would assume beginning with 3.4 since you have to agree to the statement), therefore, I'm a little unsure of the validity to your "includes 3.4" statement.
Right, no one can say that having 3.2 installed will keep you "safe." As of now there are no reports of auto-updates, but Nintendo could change that an hour from now. Just because they have not done something does not mean they will not doing something. They have the ability to update any Wii out there. The only way to actually be safe is to take you Wii off the internet until someone puts out code that will completely stop updates.

No. The ability to force an update does not exist in the older versions.
It has yet to be confirmed to exist in the newer versions either.
Personally, I am skeptical. I think the agreement revision was only for clarity.
It always said they could do this, but the capability did not previously exist.

Well, people have investigated enough of the Wii's data to know.

They do not know yet about the current version, however it is known that the previous ones can't do it.
I'd personally be surprised if the current version can force-update, but we shall certainly see in time.

And yes, I'm going to take the risk. There's no reason to be afraid since nothing is irreversable.

Anything is impossible with enough time, effort, and cursing.

This will make marcan happy.

This is very interesting. Why remove IOS10 instead of replacing it? It seems that this would make it possible to reinstall a fakesign enabled IOS10 (extracted from a NAND dump on a pre-3.3v2 machine).

For some reason I doubt that this is why it will make Marcan "very happy".

Care to elaborate?

I got 3.4U, and my homebrew channel is still present and operational. I can run my emu's off it and everything.

I installed the patch last night, BTW.

EDIT: I have an NTSC US Wii, if that matters.

Just a small update here. I decided to take one for the team and check this out. Played around a bit. Now i had all the previous stuff loaded with the "fixed" 3.3 update. had loader channels and HB channel and some wads. Kept my HB on a seperate sd card and my saves DLC and such on another. I installed Softchip's modified updater. Didn't see any noticable change to speeds. So I backed up my channels (just in case) removed TH since it wouldn't work anyway. Very nervously I went in and updated my system to 3.4u. Nothing changed in the HB front. Oh and I had NO SD card in it when I updated. All my channels stayed and are working. I can install WAD's and yes, load times are significantly faster. Played some GHWT and my DLC loads ALOT faster now. Tried alot of different games with wiigator and softchip. All working fine. Maybe I got lucky. For now all is good. If they force updates in the future I am sure that there will be workarounds as always. I am hoping they can now "patch" games for certain features.
