I've never been able to get the 0.3 firmware to work properly, so I've always used the 0.2 firmware and the 0.3 software. It may be worth giving that a shot.
If it's still under warranty then send it back to Nintendo. You can buy double sided tape in nearly any department store, so adhering the battery down shouldn't be that hard. Most of the stores also sell screwdrivers.
