Hello fellows hope everyone is well, I have Arm9 loader and luma 3ds, But I would like to do a back up, I have a spare 16gb sd card can I just put it in my 3ds (empty) and do a back up from there?
Also how do I actually back it up do I need to hold start on boot ?

the reason I want to back it up is so I can first have a back up (i seem to have lost my original back up when I hacked it) and secondly I would like to update Luma and is it possible to update arm9 loader also ? if so how ?

my last question is I have 11.3 can have the new update from nintendo ? is it safe ?

https://3ds.guide/godmode9-usage will show you how to backup. Press and hold start when you power on to launch your payload/payload menu.

No, because you won't be able to boot GodMode9. You'll need in the least the luma files and GodMode9.

So if I transfer the Luma folder containing payloads folder and config.bin and that all I need ?
I dont need
arm9loaderhax.bin or anything else? right?

You need the arm9loaderhax.bin to load the payloads.

Boot your device while holding (Start) to launch the Luma3DS chainloader menu
Launch GodMode9 by pressing (A)
Press (Home) to bring up the action menu
Select “More…”

Okay so got into god mode but when I press the 'home' Button there is not a "more..." select only "power off system", "reboot system" and "SD format Menu" ?

Any Ideas ?

Okay I just cant figure this out and its driving me crazy, but I have found my original back up files I think which is:

NANDmin.bin.sha
NATIVE_FIRM.app
NATIVE_FIRM.bin
and another NANDmin.bin which I think is just NANDmin.bin.sha (renamed) is that the backup ?

Is it really necessary to go through all this trouble if I already have a backup from the first time I hacked it?

sha file is the hash for the backup to check that it's not corrupt. It should be very small.
You don't have to make a backup, but if you screw up and have to restore, you'll have to go back to when you made your last backup and restore that. It's up to you, but don't come crying to us if you lose stuff because you didn't backup.

well I wouldn't cry over a machine for a start. I would like a more recent back up but I just cant seem to do it on my EMPTY 16GB I put the files mentioned on the card, and I don't have enough room on the 32 GB card I'm using, to do a backup.

Are you using the most recent version of GodMode9? And did you check your SD cards for problems with H2testw? Each backup is only about 2GB at most so there should be plenty of room on a 16GB card. It's probably fake.

no its the card that came with the 3DS so I was using it before upgrading to 32GB one, I hacked my 3DS in Jan this year so I'm pretty sure I'm on the latest arm9loader so wont need to update that.
Have updated Luma now, just would like to get a backup before installing 11.4 so I dont cry if anything gos wrong lol
Probably don't have the latest Godmode9 I've just seen an update was released last week. Downloaded the zip now. will figure it out hopefully and get it working from the 16gb

I managed to Back up so thank you

do I need to rename it from nand.bin to NANDmin.bin like my old backup ?
so this literally only backs up the nand right ? would doing a back up on my 32GB sd card which is full of games etc.. make any difference ?

Just use JKSM to backup your save. Copy your photos and music if you care.

No, it is not safe to update. Gateway does not work on 11.3 or 11.4 emuNAND.
If you want to update, I'd recommend backing up all your save games using JKSM then following https://3ds.guide and not using your Gateway anymore. Unless you're using the cheat function it isn't doing anything for you that you couldn't get with a9lh + Luma.

this custom firmware thingy actually sounds pretty good. Can I then also run all those .3ds and .3dz "files"?

You need Gatewait or Sky3DS to run those. You can install CIA on CFW.

The SD card contains all your installed games so back that up along with the NAND that was using it if you don't want to have to install your games again and lose progress.

With cfw you can install cia files directly to your home menu or install the games with freeshop. If you already have 3ds files you can convert them to cia when you have cfw.
