An upcoming eShop application called “RAINWAY” will supposedly let you stream your PC games to your Nintendo Switch. Wait, what?!

Yeah, according to developer Borderless Gaming’s comments on Reddit, the app will be available from the Nintendo Switch’s eShop. When the app will be released is anyone’s guess.

The Rainway website states that your games will be available at 60 FPS. All you’ll need on your PC is a GPU that supports DirectX 11. As for setup, the website says Rainway will take care of any necessary configuration, making the process “pain-free.”

We’re still trying to process the fact that this will be coming to the eShop. If this is true, then not only will this be a surprising development, but this might be the first application we see on the Switch.

But, if this turns out to be true, can you imagine playing The Witcher 3 on your Switch? I don’t think we’re ready for that.

Full statement on nintendo life:

Rainway is an upcoming program that allows you to play your favorite PC games on nearly any device. Some of our newly developed software techniques allow games to be transmitted from your computer to another device in super-high quality, and with practically no lag.
Rainway's signature feature is that it's available on any device with a web browser. You'll simply visit play.rainway.io, log in, and kick back with your favorite games. Native apps for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and other platforms are being developed to provide an even more seamless experience.
While the technology to watch PC games live has been around for a few years now, Rainway while using very few system resources allows you to completely play your games from the comfort of anywhere, anytime, on anything.
The best part is that practically any modern PC is compatible. You don't need to purchase any additional computer hardware and did we mention that it's free? That's right, no more 50 dollar boxes or subscription fees, the Rainway experience will be available free of charge for life.
We hope to build a community around Rainway and continue to grow our technology to truly new heights. We will have some media to show off in the coming weeks, but in the mean time pre-register today at the form below to ensure your inclusion in the May 5th beta.

(note: I originally found this on tweakers.net, but I guess most people can't read Dutch).

Question: What if i was to stream GTA V which runs like "Kim Jong Uns Leadership" (i.e its disasterous) whenever i play it on my laptop, on my future Switch??

My point here is that GTA V on my laptop runs at 5-10fps. However would streaming increase the fps on my Switch??? or have i just asked something dumb? :(?

My main question is whether nintendo is really considering allowing this on their eshop. After all, they know damn well that the next thing people who buy this app do is configure some emulators on it.
Well i mean is for playing pc games, so does it play games or just use some form of mirror casting that makes it work? If it sounds like the gefore experience thing with nvidia shield or moonlight, is probably not as popular until someone make it look cool. :P

This, if it REALLY is something coming to the Eshop, would be a GREAT compromise! Homebrew, not on the system, but still through the system. Native homebrew would be better, but it might just be the start.

No, streaming it to a switch does not magically increase the framerate. It would however, increase latency.

Omg, yes please. Now I really can't wait to get a Switch! Overwatch on Switch using this anyone?

what makes you think that changing the output of the picture would give you more frames?
you can decrease the resolution and low settings, but the output doesn't matter (in fact streaming it, makes even more stress to the computer)
the game even with the monitor turned off, will still play at the same speed.. your monitor or where you see the picture, doesn't make a difference...
(gpu processes the picture, the monitor displays that picture)

Sounds pretty useless. If I'm on the go, I won't have internet. If I'm at home, I can just hop on my computer and get a better experience with less lag.

Considering how easily my phone can become a wifi hotspot for any device, this is far from useless to me. This seems to be how the PS Vita is able to stream the PS4 when its away from it, and while they say there is a small lag, its so small that its essentially negligible. Would I use this a lot? Depends on what all it can do, if I can stream emulators, media players, and the like from my computer to my Switch, then this thing is gonna quickly become my new best friend.

If it's anything like streaming from my PC to my Shield that I used to have, no thank you. I appreciate the effort for more apps and all that, but if it's gonna lag to hell, I don't know. GeForce experience and streaming was shit on my end.
