I always had mixed feelings about the Persona games even though I ultimately liked them a lot. There were things about 3 and 4 (mostly 3) that were REALLY bad, but the good was so good that I was able to put up with it. Random, repetitive dungeons, generic palette-swapped enemies, daily routine eventually turning mindless, and in the case of 3, bad characters (seriously, WTF is a super-advanced robot with machine-gun hands that can pass as human doing existing in 2009. I'm cool with occult stuff, but why a damn robot? It could have been literally anything else and I would have liked it more (or she couldn't have been in the game at all)), but 5 is pretty slick. Most everything I disliked about the previous games is not there. No random dungeons, the characters seem more interesting (so far), and the enemies ARE the personas rather than random shapes and objects. Also, the game goes back to talking to and recruiting personas rather than just having a "shuffle-time" after battle.
I'm not too far into, but an initial episode that deals with (pretty realistic depictions of ) abuse and control is really well-written and makes me want to see where everything goes.
I'm playing on PS3, not PS4, but from what I gather there are almost no differences.
In short: If you like Persona games, this will greatly exceed your expectations.
It seems, though, that they still love choosing singers with horrible English pronunciation to sing in English. I can't take the music seriously if singer sounds like they have a stuffy nose and a mouth full of cotton.
