Pretty sure my battery died even though I hardly used it and only got it at christmas. I'm wondering how long these things are supposed to last and if there is any replacement that lasts for many years or is rechargeable.

Can anyone link to a guide on how to replace the battery aswell? all the pics are gone in the thread from 09.

I'm using it with an r4i 3ds gold and that saves DS games fine to the memory card. Any way to somehow save the GBA games to there?

Depending upon what management program you use the saves will end up there. The battery is there to hold it while it reboots, or if you are using it as a standalone cart.

It should last for a while but it might be you got older stock. I can't remember all the different battery types used in the 3 in 1 (there were a few between all the models and revisions) but it should say on top (something like CR2020) and should be a reasonably common type, though do make sure you get tags with yours when you get it. Rechargeable versions did exist for earlier carts but such things were dropped.
Guide? It is two wires/tags and some solder. Anybody that can solder can replace it.

If your soldering, there isn't a guide needed, just information about what is needed. As it requires you have those skills prior to replacing the battery.

The coin cell battery life span is anywhere from 2-5 years.

If your referring to the replacing battery with the tape method from here, someone put a copy of the guide on filetrip with all the pictures here.

Regardless of whatever your slot1 flashcart is, it is your responsibility to backup your save regardless of whatever autosave features the gba loader app you are using. There are manual backup functions in nearly all gba loaders.

The 3in1 uses a CR1220.
