i don't really understand the hype and why people pre.order stuff..,
i mean if there are good rewards about it, ok you may think about that... but otherwise i don't see it really productive...
"I'ts to make sure i get it" you want to avoid item shortage, but keep in mind, some companies (if not most of them) create a false scarcity demand... so you need to remember the fact you can't get one in day 1-2-3 is the bullshit that brand is throwing at you (which you should even use that as an hint to hold it even more)

"everyone has it, so why don't i also have it", the fact to "fit" in the society, you don't want to be behind, you want to talk with others about the lastest new thing, you want to play with others while they are still interesting in the game... etc...

i can't think of others but they are all superficial...
or maybe i am just a cheapskate...
i mean, i have money saved for a new computer, my old one is dead. and i was needing an upgrade... i really could use it now, and i am so hyped because finally i will get an upgrade and play newest pc games (and the tons of old games i couldn't play before)...
and i am just holding for it, i could buy it next week, but i have an "hunch" that next month prices will drop, and i will wait and see... (this way not only i have even more saved up money and can get even more stuff, but i get stuff for cheaper..

Yea as said thats just me. I read about stuff i want and will preorder it and get it at launch. Nothing to do with anyone else. Its just how i always done it. I know what i want and why not get it as soon as it comes out. I dont buy into hype or sold out stuff.

Obviously there are good reasons to wait and not to wait. Anyone that builds their own PC knows the trade off well. Do I get a X GPU now or wait 6 months because Nvidia is going to release their new architecture? The new Intel chip is just 7 months from release and will offer a 10% performance improvement. DDR4 will cost half as much if I wait a year. At some point you have to get off the can, build the damn thing and realize whatever you build something better will come out six months from now.

There is also an argument to be made for not purchasing the first round of any electronic device. It may be a year or two before a new model change but despite all the QC there will always be flaws in the design that once in the wild become apparent. Maybe a gasket or seal on a phone or tablet ends up having a unacceptably high failure rate and is changed 6 months down. A certain subsystem chip has some compatibility issues so it switched out with a competitors.

Also the first of any new design is usually not the best and the 2nd generation is much better. First iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch were all vastly improved with their second iteration. The first year after a major automobile model revision usually has higher failure rates. And so on.

In my case I am preordering. I have two boys that are Zelda fans and MK. One shares a Splatoon passion with me. We also have two long road trips planned this summer and take weekly trips to Cedar Point or Kings Island that are each a couple hour trips. It will get used as a home console and portable. If it was just for my boys or just for me I might wait for Christmas. If there were only one or two games we were interested in I would probably wait.

Make a pro and con list and evaluate what is important to you. Use your critical thinking skills.

I'd like to preorder, but should I wait in case a bundle deal comes out?

Here in the Australian ghetto, a laggard offers general advice. I would say it depends on:
* your tight-fistedness & general relationship to money (and level of disposable income)
* how excited you are about the Switch
* how much gaming you have yet to catch up on with various devices
* your threshold for Sticker Shock

Historical context
* history has shown us that the Undisputed King of Saving Yen (and king of Love Hotels http://kotaku.com/5784314/the-nintendo-theyve-tried-to-forget-gambling-gangsters-and-love-hotels ) has traditionally been far stronger at Version 2.0 portable hardware than Version 1.0 portable hardware (Think original DS versus DS Lite & original 3DS versus New 3DS). Though some might question some of the changes, most will agree: big improvements.
* history shows us that new hardware typically gets a somewhat decent aassortment of games after Year 2 on the market.
* history shows us that nothing makes companies stand up and offer more value than bad sales. http://kotaku.com/5825495/nintendo-3ds-gets-sudden-massive-price-drop

But history has also shown us that more excitable folk are far less tight-fisted with their money & are happy to pay to get something early. I prefer to torture the Nintendo suits and all those filthy investors by withholding funds until better offerings are made available. So it's ultimately only something you can decide.

PS A game bundle is a certainty, it's only a case of when.

The new 3DS came out three years after the original 3DS. If it was a few months or one year I'd understand, but if you really waited three years then by then everyone will have moved on and you miss out on A lot of the fun.

Yes wait, the switch at launch won't have any games except for zelda, wait until it has more games and they sell a bundle

But the wait is worth it because more games and a better console more powerful, he wont need to upgrade later and the games are still there they don't disappear and are more cheaper.

Nah. I think the only thing I missed out on was frustration with the early hardware. I can explain, point-by-point, how much I disliked the early hardware (aesthetically and technically), but that would bore you to tears. I still have serious repulsions when I see it. Things were just getting good at the release of the New 3DS in my opinion: infintely better hardware and far better game choices. I missed out on nothing but frustration & high(er) prices, in my opinion.

I got the Vita only after the heavy discounts & card bundles too. There is really very little point getting these things early.

This console is going to cost $300. If you purchase Mario Odyssey and the new Zelda game, that's another $120. $420 for a console with two games. If you add the pro controller, that brings it up to $500! That's kinda' pricey isn't it? Sure seems like it to me.

Just wait, theres nothing pre-ordering is going to get you. Plus theres only 1 good game at launch it seems (if zelda is good, looks good). Nothing else decent comes out till summer or autumn, just wait for the reviews.
Well you do have bomberman r, which some people actually are excited for. And MK8 Deluxe comes out a month later. Although that is technically just a re-release, I can't wait till I can play MK8 on the go with friends at work because of the 2-controller thing the switch has with it's joycon

You do realize the XBOne initially released at $500, and a majority of their games are also about $60. That would have been $620 for the console and 2 games. This console is actually fairly cheap, and is actually 4th cheapest of all consoles when adjusted for inflation.

doubt you can find a place to pre order it anyway...

So your choice likely is, buy very overpriced like the nes classic edition or wait. I would wait rather than pay outlandish prices. Perhaps it will be stocked better in store than the classic though. One could always hope.

But if you can find it at regular price and like the games; then get it :)

I checked all these online stores in the USA:
Walmart, Target, BestBuy, Gamestop, Toysrus, Amazon
And found no switches available to pre order :(

I completely agree that birdwatching is a much cheaper hobby than gaming. :)

In my best John Cleese voice. "Very well sir! Perhaps could I interest you in a refurbished deluxe edition Wii U direct from Nintendo and some excellent utilities over in our Wii U Hacking Department?"

True that. I've even had any of those websites that provide notifications when they are available again set up to let me know if the red/blue version goes up. Nothing, and they've been out since about 1.5 days after preorders started.

That's assuming Nintendo will release any new versions other than one with more internal memory. Which at that point you could just invest into a larger SD card for the switch anyway with the price increase. Unless the console is so popular they make one with updated hardware, which won't show up for at least a couple years. Unless you want to wait 2+ years for a hardware update which may or may not happen, no real reason to wait unless you want to make sure the console does well or wait till more games come out.

That's called the osbourn effect. Technically you could say the reason why the Wii U failed was because everyone waited for the second revision, which never came because sales were so poor.

I find nintendo hardware to be one of the few things to not wait to buy. The very few times where it becomes a regret (like the 3DS price drop) Nintendo does reimburse us for our pains.

I was tempted to buy Bomberman R but im not paying £50 for a game that's worth £15 or less all because the launch line-up is lacking quantity.

Bomberman's good too but the pricing.. yikes.

GameSeek has it on pre-order for £36.75 which is still more than it should be for a Bomberman game but good to see it dropping down from that ridiculous £49.99/£59.99 that retailers set themselves instead of Nintendo forcing an official price. The usual RRP is £39.99 or £34.99 (3DS) for games so it's possibly just a temporary thing anyway.

It depends on whether you get fun from playing the games, or fun from being part of a group of people. I haven't upgraded from PS3/Wii/DSi yet.

I'm waiting on the Switch for games I know I really want. The Wii U turned out to be an expensive mistake.
Putting aside the odd price of Super Bomberman R, aren't you looking forward to SBR besides Zelda?
