Does it bother you to just play it while it is plugged in?.. You sound like you are in your house while you are playing it.. Not sure how much you walk around in to different rooms while you are playing it, so maybe this isn't an option for you..

Even if you don't want to play it while it is plugged in, you could still maybe keep the charger next to your computer or some thing, and when you are done playing and close the 3DS, plug it in so that it can be charging the entire time while you are playing on the computer.. Then when you go back to play 3DS later, unplug it and open it and resume playing..

One other option that might seem ridiculous unless you are desperate: You might buy a second charger and that way which ever room you are in when you close the 3DS, you can plug it in to a charger with out having to constantly plug/unplug a single charger from the wall power socket all the time..

For me personally I always have it plugged in while I am playing it in the house.. My OCD makes me think "The battery is only for being out some where! I don't want to put wear and tear on it when I could be playing it using AC power in the house!".. But that is just me..

I think a simple solution would be to get a dock for your 3DS, they are like $20. And just rest your 3DS on it when putting it aside. It will always be fully charged.

You wouldn't, by any chance, happen to have a DS flashcart inserted? Particularly one with a co-processor, like the DSTWO?

That will drain your battery crazy fast. I last 20 hours in sleep mode with my DSTWO inserted, I last ~5 days in sleep mode without it.

Why yes I do. Thanks for bringing that up as I had no idea that could drain the battery.

In related news has the method of running DS games natively been released yet as I remember reading about it a while back.

Maybe I'm just used to the DS as it lasted an eternity in sleep mode (as well as action) compared to the 3DS. The console is brand new so I don't think the battery is an issue in that sense.

Bullshit. My DSi never lasted long. I had Supercard in it later which is notorious for draining battery life, but even without one it would not last long in sleep mode - few hours at most if that. Even when shut off, the DSi seemed to use a lot of battery life and if I turned it off then turned it on few days later I'd find that it has no battery left. Meanwhile my PSP that I may have left in sleepmode over 2 weeks ago still had battery in it.

I had my 2DS on sleep mode for 11 days earlier, and when I checked it, it still had 3/4 bars of battery. It literally uses no battery when sleeping. Pedometer and what have you may do that if you're actually walking around with it .. idk, but by your description that's not the case anyway.

As far as having a flashcart inside the 3DS .. I don't see how it can drain battery if it doesn't have internal processor on it - like the Supercard. Aren't flashcards basically modified game carts in a sense .. I've never heard of battery draining when you have a game cart inserted. All you said yes to the question so I have to ask whether it is Supercard you're using or some random R4 or what have you?

Your DSi battery was probably faulty/old if it was discharging even while turned off.

Interesting thing about the DSTWO draining battery quicker than normal.
I was recently playing DQ VIII and my battery on a full charge, died after 3 hours playtime. (Based on my save time before and after quiting to charge)
I thought it may have been because of the Overclocking in Luma CFW (which i know can be turned off).
But i also had my DSTwo in the system, so i guess that was the real culprit.

Took out the DSTWO and will play some more later and see if the charge last longer than 3 hours.
Crazy that the DS card can drain the battery that much even when not in use.

Before I just jump the gun here and say either your battery sux or just turn it off, do note that some flashcarts in it can drain battery, street pass/spotpass when WiFi switch is on, and some games running can affect it.

The reason it uses so much power is the 3DS is constantly polling the card for header information, thus the ASIC on the flashcart has to constantly be running and telling the 3DS it is a legit game (for example, Alex Rider Stormbreaker).

I recently ordered a DSTT (the really ancient one) for precisely this reason. It doesn't work normally with the 3DS but it can work with TWLoader just fine, and doesn't consume battery power more than a normal cart does.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
