Thinking of my kids using the Wii U and from reading CBHC would be not a option as you have to make sure you don't format, remove the game, etc. or it will brick. Currently I have the HBL bookmarked in my browser and we launch it that way. Then from HBL load Mocha CFW and then can play the backups.

I am planning to buy a DS game and install Haxchi. From there I understand the browser is no longer needed and can just load Haxchi to load Mocha CFW.

Will this be kid proof in terms of bricks? Like if they delete the Ds game or format for a reason unknown right now the system will just boot stock?

Using just haxchi is fine, it wont matter if it gets deleted. You can also hold B while launching haxchi and it'll be like launching mocha.

Absolutely not.

But the more recent versions of the CBHC block accidental uninstallation of the exploited game (or reinstalling a clean copy with wupinstaller over it), plus the icon is changed to "DO NOT TOUCH" anyway, so it's not that hard to teach them the only simple rule!

Simple haxchi can be deleted safely, although it still has this anti-delete patch for convenience!

He's just asking if haxchi by itself is safe. You should reread the post. ;]

Just install Haxchi and launch Mocha everytime. Just tell your kids not to open "settings" application.

Thanks for the feedback. Will try that hold B when launching Haxchi. And some of you may be parents which you know that kids don't always listen to what is being told to them. Rather be safe than having it convenient at this point.

Honestly some people give really shit advice. Try this:

Change your config .txt in haxchi to default = sysmenu (or whatever B does now - I forget, this is from memory).

Set button A to boot HBL.

That way, even if your kids click haxchi, it will just boot back to sysmenu (with sig patches). THAT is kid safe. No need to teach them to press B or anything. Only you would know to press A to get to HBL where you could have apps that kids can screw around with. But now they can't. They click haxchi - nothing happens (in their eyes).

And whoever said use haxchi to boot mocha - how stupid and pointless is that? Anyway....

Once you change config .txt you need to reinstall haxchi over the existing haxchi. No need to delete and re-download or anything. Just re-install.

That's what I do for my kids. Works a treat.

The safest option for kids would be to install games the Brazilian way.
If they are installed you don't need any hacks anymore, just boot the Wii U and start the game.
And there is no brick risk at all, it is nice to have Haxchi, but there are so few homebrew games and if you want to play it safe I wouldn't want to have the added risk.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.

I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
