IMHO, if something will EVER get released, it'll look like this: http://img.hexus.net/v2/gaming/screenshots/psp_hd_large_1.jpg (just the flat part)

There's no way to fit a microSD in that slot.
What about the cartridge slot, though? With HENkaku, we have full system control. Cart dumpers gave been confirmed to be possible. I think it would be feasible to have a separate running homebrew actively patching out the normal read/write system and replacing it with a standard SD system.

Indeed, but that would be limited to users with an hacked Vita, while a general adapter would also be sold to people that don't want to hack their Vitas. As such, it'd make more commercial sense for a company to produce an adapter which can be sold to every Vita user out there instead of just a subset of it.

Though that's true, it doesn't nessescarily need to be a company making it. It could just be a pin redirection, like msd to sd adapter. If the pin layout is different (and it probably is) it still wouldn't matter, because our hypothetical homebrew app would patch that out. I think. Point is, it would be simple enough to make one. Also, it's been proven that messing with the card slot is possible- cobra exists.

Sony in their infinite wisdom made the cards as small as Micro SDs so an adapter can't be made,
maybe a dongle? and even then they are encrypted witch makes them slower to read and write.
They are the worst case of anti-consumer DRM I have ever seen and I hope they are defeated
once and for all.

Maybe a hardware mod, to weld in our own Micro SD slot would be a better idea, and make
the system write there instead. Just an idea I had.
I second that.
Hope soon my soldering skills are put in a good use.

We could add a microSD card socket in the Vita mystery socket in the top that isnt used :)
That only applies to the 1000 model though. It would be better to have an all around solution instead of just for one model of the system.

In all honesty, I wouldn't care if it was a dongle like the PSP 4GB drive....just hope the cable would be a little longer or at least detachable so it could be placed somewhere so it's not in the way while gaming....like in a pocket or on your lap

Right? It would need a longer cable or else that could put a strain on the port. Course then you have to worry about other things like it getting stuck on something and pulling...

Was there really a hard drive in that thing?
Yep, a Microdrive.

I wonder if we would be able to play games over SMB like with Open PS2 Loader

Not likely. Well it's theoretically possible but impractical. The Vita has a hard enough time getting files FTP'd to it via wifi. I don't see network streaming while playing a game being a feasible/practical option
