not looking to set up cfw/a9lh. she only has a 2gb sd card so not much use for the possibilities of that. (also, these are not tech-savvy people.) I already set up cfw one one of their 3dses, and they didnt even bother to use most of the features, they used it just to play one game. My friend literally just wants themes and to play megaman X on blargsnes with latest firmware occasionally. This is why I say cfw/a9lh is a stretch for this situation.

you also didnt answer my question:
will installing the 11.0 version of this will allow her to update and still have access to homebrew, right? (installing before updating to 11.0)
it will but... why? Honestly, it's not hard (only time consuming), and something like Luma or SaltFW will allow her to always update without any hassle.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

ok. Thank you for answering my question instead of changing the subject.

I read half your guys's posts about changing to a9lh when the issue isnt even one that needs it. Most particularly, cfw. its like if i walked into a car repair shop to get one mirror replaced and they suggest to redo the entire vehicle while charging me for it.

"oh you are on a firmware below 11.0 and you just want a custom theme? GET A9LH. you may not know how to use half the stuff it offers, and you may break your 3ds in the process of setting it up, and it may be completely unnecessary for your task, BUT ITS BETTER."

Never had an issue with rxtools, and i currently gave it to my friend on his 3ds, he barely needs it; only using it to play one game he couldn't afford. (not to mention it was easier to setup)
Also, keep in mind - nobody charges you for A9LH. It simply IS better. And it is a waste not to do it since it is free anyway.

its entirely unnecessary, time consuming, and i just put basehaxx on there, updated hers to 11.0, and it was much shorter, and allows her to still do the one thing she needs it to do: themes and blargsnes. I'm not gonna spend another 3 hours installing a9lh on someone's 3ds when:
1. Their sd card is too small for any 3ds games (they aren't gonna get a bigger one)
2. THEY LITERALLY ONLY USE 2 HOMEBREW APPLICATIONS. (blargsnes for megaman x, which runs at full speed, and custom themes.)
Also, keep in mind - nobody charges you for A9LH. It simply IS better. And it is a waste not to do it since it is free anyway.
you are being charged with a risk of breaking your device, something im not trying to do on a friend's 3ds. If they need something of the like, CFW installation is my preferred way to go, mainly due to experience of installing and ease to understand. (they aren't going to understand half the stuff this community says or the uses of a9lh anyway)

... You risk a brick with ANYTHING related to ARM9 kernel exploits. Heck, you don't even need ARM9 access to brick the 3DS.

Also, keep in mind: A9LH + Luma is pretty much install&forget. Don't forget that. No need to check if you're updating SysNAND or EmuNAND, no need for any of that. That alone makes it better for noobs. Especially considering how much the guide holds your hand. They don't need to understand how A9LH works. All they need to know - Their 3DS is permanently hacked.

first, you might want to fix your post formatting

second, this approach disregards the intended result and the amount of effort required to get to that result. I was not looking for a full blown system hack in this situation. I was looking for one way to maintain access to the homebrew launcher on 11.0, which has been achieved with the basehaxx exploit. There was no need for A9LH in this example, or for you to bring my original question off-topic.

I got basehaxx to work on one of my 3ds with 11.0 firmware but even after i try to download the correct payload for another 3ds i have, (O3ds 10.7.0-22U) I get a black screen without anything loading and the game crashes then proceeds to the home menu. Does anyone have a solution?

yep. I downloaded a fresh starter kit just for this
odd. If its not between n3ds and o3ds, the only other thing i could think of is try the 11.0 payload on the 10.7 3ds. I tested the 11.0 payload on my friend's 10.5 3ds before she updated to 11.0, and it worked fine then. Thats all I can think of.

Hi guys - just a few questions I would really appreciate some help with:

I'm going to buy Omega Ruby. Does it have to be cartridge or can it be digital? Do I need a power save in order to activate the home-brew? When I read the instructions, specifically this part: "Run the homebrew launcher and launch the installer, select the firmware of the target console and follow the instructions" it leaves me unsure if there's something I'm missing or not.

I'm using the new Monster Hunter Generations 3DS XL running 11.0.0-33U. I really appreciate the help. There tends to be so many guides out there, all pointing in different directions. I'd just appreciate the up-to-date help. Thanks again.

First of all, digital or physical works fine. Second, this is a secondary exploit. What that means is, you must have access to the Homebrew Launcher to install it as ORAS have per-cart encryption so you can't use PowerSaves to insert a pre-exploited save. IMHO your best bet is to use OoTHax and a PowerSave to get started. Oh and a side note, this exploit requires you to have played until you've unlocked Secret Bases to use it which is a few hours of gameplay.

I see. OK - guess I've got to pick up OoT and Power Saves then. Thanks for your help!

Nope. Browserhax and Menuhax for 10.6-11.0 have been released! Use that!

I saw that this morning! So all I need now is ORAS, digital or otherwise, and I'm all set even if they patch browserhax? Or am I misunderstanding?
If you install basehaxx now, you'll be fine even if browserhax gets patched later, unless you somehow bork your basehaxx installation at some point after that.

OK. I actually went through and installed menuhax. Should I still install basehaxx? If I update my system at any point in the future, will it eliminate my ability to use the home-brew?

Thanks for all the help so far, everyone. Much appreciated.

You don't need oras anymore. Just use browserhax to install Menuhax 3.0.
