No. Just no.
The staff here are extremely forgiving to people compared to sites I've been on. I've been on sites where users don't even get warnings before getting banned *cough gaiaonline *cough* I've been on sites where the staff act as if they are unquestionable Gods to the users *IGN.*
The staff here extremely forgiving to the users and let a lot more slide. Not to mention some the easiest staff that I've ever had to deal with. I never feel threatened, scared, or belittled when talking to them. I feel like I am talking to someone who is willing to listen and willing to take the time to fully evaluate a situation before giving a call.
I would also like to mention they are the first staff that I've ever seen be completely active in the community. They don't just sit behind Staff forums all day and pump out announcements. They actively talk in the community and make themselves very familiar with everyone. If it wasn't for their label, they just come off as regular forum users.
Amen.

You are joking me right?
Sure, there's around 20-30 users that are fine, but this is one of the few sites I've been on, where there's been a regular problem with me being accepted here, it feels like my school, all over again.

This is my final post here and it will stay like that.

That's sad :( does Jackus departure affect your decision of leaving?

Hmm, I do miss the front page pokemon wifi tournament action...but I suspect that will return once sun and moon are released ^_^"

But then again, the site does flood with in-active users right before a pokemon game is released.

Still, I like this forum and hope to run into more of you in the future !

thanks for the compliments, it's always nice to hear.
not that we the staff feel entirely responsible for GBAtemp's greatness; GBAtemp's so awesome thanks to its community.
we the staff are just the guiding hand :)

Negativity surrounding GBAtemp has been around in many forms throughout the years - The fact GBAtemp is still around and people are making threads like this one really speaks volumes as to the validity of that negativity.
(Irony? You decide!)

I love this site. Although I'm very experienced in computers, technology and console hacking, I joined as a total 3DS noob. I learned by asking questions and reading through the tutorials which are so kindly contributed by members here. Over time I learned more and more about homebrew and ended up brushing up on C and turning the homebrew launcher into Gridlauncher. The support I got from the community here was absolutely incredible and although the launcher is no longer inactive development, I will always remember the experience of working with the gbatemp community to make it what it is now.

As with any online community there are some very unlikeable members and I've had my share of scrapes with them (cf. that blog posting). But on the whole, the staff here do an amazing job of keeping things fair and balanced. The core members here make this place a really fun and welcoming place to hang out :)

With regard to the recent negativity, I feel that this has mostly arisen from younger members. To be honest, I think many of the issues that have cropped up have been fairly normal teenage insecurity and feelings of inadequacy which are part of growing up. The issue is that online these feelings can be expressed untempered by the social expectations of face to face communication (in other words, they can say what they want online) which does unfortunately make for quite a negative atmosphere. Although I empathise with these young members, I think this demonstrates why an age restriction on the forum is important.

I came here in 2009 because google guided me here while searching for ways and methods to hack my Wii back in the day. Most of my time I spent silently lurking the forums because that's just how I am. But whenever I decided to rise to the surface of the community, most people I met were really kind and helpful. About the rest? I just let them be, 'cause this is the internet after all and just like in the real life you will find some idiots here. I've enjoyed the seven years I've been here already and I hope that there will be many more to come. After all this is one of the few places on the internet where I feel like home. Here are just so many people that have the same interests as me. And that is what makes GBATemp amazing for me, since I've never managed to find people that share certain interests of me in real life, or just very few of them. So thank you GBATemp for letting me be a part of your community :)

though if this site used Invision Power Board, it would be way better
We used it before. Invision board was more powerful and more interactive (at the end, we had integrated flash based games with contest and user's scores). it felt a little going a step backward when we migrated to xenforo, and a lot of users weren't happy and said they would quit. most of them are still here :)

I don't know, but I've been here for nearly 13 years
See what I said ! users are still here ! haha
Hey, it's always nice to see very old members still active :)

For me, gbatemp is like my home. It's the place I can be myself and where I can share what I like. nothing like that on or outside internet is possible for me.
A lot of people are here only for the piracy, but even if a lot came here for piracy they are staying here for the community. people who are new don't always notice it. they also think moderators are nazis, but we don't act without reason.

The website evolved with the society along the years, it became an official game reviewer now ! We had to change from "background community" to a more common video game window on the net, as we envisioned that most users will go away if the forum didn't have any more new content to share (no hacking on new console generation), but fortunately the 3DS hacking emerged ! and now even the WiiU ! we benefit from both gaming news and hacking.

I hope the user base from today will stay here tomorrow. hacking and homebrew will be harder, if not impossible on next gen, but we will always be there to talk about our passions and not only about games :)

They actively talk in the community and make themselves very familiar with everyone. If it wasn't for their label, they just come off as regular forum users.
That's not a job we were hired for, the staff were all members before. we share the same values, and I'm happy that users feel that becoming staff didn't change us. We are still ourselves and still here for the same interest.
I wish I could talk more with everyone and know users better. I think someone said it few post before, we are not untouchable, anyone can come to us and talk with us if they want. (At least, with me, I don't know about other staff  )
I just miss time to talk regularly, so users don't come back anymore, everyone has his life to attend to. but talking from time to time is always nice "hey, you are still around?!"

It's awesome because I'm here :tpi:

Nah, but there are a few small details:
  • The community.
  • Staff that really are a part of the community.
  • hrth
