So, menuhax + Gateway has worked fine for me.
It has served me well so far, but their flashcart was expensive when I got it, and I never really wanted to rely on unknown, shady developers for support.
As I understand, there are far better options nowadays, which are free, more versatile, and a lot more future-proof.

I have an O3DS XL. I've been using a 9.2 sysNAND (that I only use for GBA games), and a 10.7 Gateway emuNAND that I've had since last year. What I want is to completely stop using Gateway, and finally move on to A9LH + Luma3DS (formerly AuReiNand) with updated sysNAND. I know how to convert my old 3DS/3DZ games to CIA, and how to export my old Gateway saves and import them to the new CIA copies.

What I haven't seen is a proper guide on how to transition from my existing Gateway emuNAND to an updated sysNAND using Luma3DS, while keeping my NNID and everything else. I must have missed that transition phase when all those questions were being answered. Is there a way to safely inject my old emuNAND as sysNAND once I set up A9LH and all that? Or will I have to continue using it as emuNAND? Will I have to convert it to RedNAND? I'm quite confused.

Thanks for any help guys.

Simply your emunand we're melted into sysnand and becomes your principal nand,in fact if i boot luma3ds in sysmode that show SYS 10.7E the same of my emunand, the Only things that i've lost in the process is mg GBA/dsiware games installed on(6 or 7 not enough)the rest was a completely success :)

Hi yoshinatsu,

you can backup your emunand with the tool emunand9 and put it good away.
in the last step of the Plailect it says, "18. Copy your emuNAND_original.bin backups from Section I to the root of your SD card" in this step you put your emunand backup of your gw-emunand instead.
and follow the guide to the end as it is written.

a little question aside. You said, you have GBA games in Sysnand ... have you still the cia and have you also extracted the saves from there? or do you need them in sysnand to work on emunand?
Because you will lose this by changing to an updated sysnand.
I have no idea of gbainjection so better asking before you say why has nobody told me ^^

Regards

Thanks for the helpful reply. I have a few GBA games on sysNAND. Only on sysNAND, installing them on emuNAND too is a waste of space in my opinion.
I still have their CIA files elsewhere, and I haven't progressed enough on the games to care about dumping their save files.
Heh, I didn't expect my 10.7 emuNAND and my 9.2 sysNAND to magically merge just so that I can keep my GBA games. I don't care if I lose them in the process.

I'd like to ask one more thing, just to be sure. After I set up an updated sysNAND, will I be safe to update to future firmwares? Just like I would normally update a 3DS?
Or will I have to use an alternate DNS to block updates or something until Luma3DS is deemed safe for use with that future firmware?

Remember to unlink the two nands after you have setup A9LH because the process(obiously)relink them in one and you for sure having problem(unwrapping gift, game out or folder expecially for GBA/DSi games)with. use tinyformat to fix the issue without extract microsd at all and you will be fine . :) PS: for the updating sysnand in the future security "who live will see" that's my motto :)

Unlink which NANDs? I'm not planning on keeping an emuNAND anymore.

You don't need to worry about that then. The last part of Plailect's guide explains how to move your emuNAND to sysNAND (it's a bit more involved than just flashing the emuNAND backup to sysNAND), so you should be fine as long as you follow it.

Well, I've heard there's no reason to be keeping an emuNAND anymore since you're be able to recover from any catastrophic events through A9LH, without the need of a hard mod.
Are those recovery tools already released though...? Or is this all still hypothetical?
'Cause I had to do a hard mod to recover my 3DS last month, and I hated every second of it. Hopefully with A9LH I'll never, EVER have to do that again :P

Soooooooo, if I got this right.... I guess I just keep a backup of my current emuNAND with EmuNAND9, and start from Part 4 of Plailect's guide, replacing every "RedNAND" reference to emuNAND?
Wish me luck :)

Success!!
Took longer than I thought, and the 2.1.0 parts were pretty scary, but here's another happy A9LH user :D
Thank you for all the help guys, I can finally get rid of Gateway!
