downgrading from 10.3 does go smoothly in comparison to 9.9 etc... I did an experiment w/ 4 new 3ds's that i was downgrading... (all were @ 9.9 fw), the two systems that i directly tried to downgrade directly from 9.9 would halt half way and black screen , w/ partial update
(safesysupdater). The kicker is the other 2 systems I did.. I first installed 10.3 on via sysupdater, and what do you know... both downgrades on the 2 that i first installed 10.3 on went smoothly w/ no hiccup. ... coincidence?? Maybe 9.9 has something that causes this?

Download EmuNAND9, make a NAND backup (in case anything goes wrong, even if it shouldn't), backup your SD + the NAND.bin file, and then click on "setup EmuNAND" :)

EDIT: And then, download any N3DS CFW (I recommend ReiNAND), setup MenuHax, and edit the payloads so the ReiNand.3dsx is launched at boot (open the menuhax_ropbinpayload file in a hex editor, search for "boot.3dsx", and edit it so it will be another name (I used ReiN.3dsx, it must be exactly 9 characters long)), copy the ReiNand.3dsx on the root of your SD, rename it to the name you used for the modified payload, and you're done!

Okay, so when I try to launch EmuNAND9 from HBL, it just gives a black screen. What gives? :wtf:

I wonder what happens that people manage to get a soft brick, i always use the same process to downgrade (check md5, transfer with teracopy, safesys to double check cia's and then use julian's sysupdater SUlib and it works all the time)

Could be a number of things, it's "electronics" signals going here, signals going there. Shit just the TV, PC or a soldering iron could send interference out and cause shit to crash..

Well, that's random, and even by taking every precaution, there's a chance it'll brick. It's like MenuHax; often, it works as expected, sometimes, it freezes, even if there's nothing different with the files used.

Is it truly confirmed that 9.9 is an "unstable" firmware to downgrade from? I stopped updating my New 3DS on firmware 9.9 to enjoy the homebrew, and later when the Julian's SysUpdate was released I gave it a try.

It was literally my first attempt and it worked flawlessly. I got a softbrick upon reboot because of the menuhax files, but removing the microSD card fixed that and I eventually got EmuNAND up and running. No "franken-firmware"/"fake 9.2", but a legitimate 9.2 installation as everything succeeded according to SysUpdate and I haven't experienced any issues with apps outright refusing to run. I'm now on ReiNAND 3.2b and loving every minute of it!

I also used ihaveamac's "Downgrade Check" tool which reported that everything was correct and I had 9.2.

You can use RXTools, but I recommend to use ReiNAND for N3DS. It has been more stable for me :)

Not only this, but if you plan to update your EmuNAND (so you don't have to use workarounds to play newer games, play games online, and access the eShop), rxTools currently doesn't support any EmuNAND firmware higher than 9.5 on New 3DSes. This means your EmuNAND will flat out refuse to work with rxTools if it's anything higher than that. ReiNAND currently supports 10.5, meaning you can update your EmuNAND and enjoy the benefits.

rxTools will be updated later down the line, but from my understanding it's useless on EmuNANDs with a higher firmware at the moment.

You know that iso site? Well the guide to downgrading tells you the title of the thread you need. Goto the mega link and look for your correct files. Use the link to check the files are good, get safesysupdater and downgradecheck. then downgrade and prey.

Thats how i did it! :-D

Sorry to bump again; I'm having trouble installing CIAs through FBI 1.4.17. :(

This is basically what it says:
Code:
Install failed!
DevMenu11.4.cia
Source: SOURCE_AM_START_CIA_INSTALL (0X13)
Module: MODULE_NN_OS (0X6)
Summary: SUMMARY_WRONG_ARGUMENT (0X8)
Description: DESCRIPTION_INVALID_COMMAND (0X2f)
Press Start to continue,

I'm using RxTools 9.2 EmuNAND and using FBI through Ninjhax 2.5. This result is just after I reset the DB files. Can anyone tell me the problem?

Have you tried another cia, or injecting FBI into the Health & Safety app?

I haven't tried launching it through Ninjhax 2.5, so that might be an issue.

You can't inject FBI into the N3DS H&S app. I tried that. It said that the H&S app was missing the TMD.

I'll see if I can try it in Ninjhax 1.1; see if that makes any difference. It shouldn't.
