Hacking PS VITA 3.36

but that's the end of this offtopic... you realize that for what you paid for your $ony or M$ consoles that you COULD have built a VERY nice desktop/"pseudo" portable right? AND that you'd have access to 99.99999% of those said "console" games although many suffer in their consolization and the limitations imposed by the last several generations of consoles that are in some feeble way STILL attempting to compete with their MUCH more accomplished AND CHEAPER bretheren.

However IF you wish to continue to throw away $$$ have at it... but static TV consoles are dead or at least the "walking" dead.

I'm sorry but the whole 'you can play all those games on PC anyway! argument just falls flat most of the time.

Roughly 80% of PS3 and 360 games never got PC releases, almost zero PS1 or PS2 (or original Xbox, but that did have more) got PC ports. Yes Yes theres emulators, which yes are awesome, I love emulators, but so far they're still limited to PS1 and PS2 + DS and PSP of course (and anything older).

3DS, PS3 and so on EMus have a long ways to go before they're good enough, I can't wait for that day personally, but I know its a ways off.

And then you've got Nintendo, a company thats just never going to go the PC route for first party, partly because they're stubborn, but mostly because the console market IS Japan, sure Japan has plenty of Pc gamers, mostly playing MMO's, a few RPGS and generally Visual Novels (since those are like 90% PC). So even a company like Sony mainly avoids PC because Console is a bigger market for their customer base right now. Microsoft, well tbh I sort I feel like if its a western developer then they don't really have much excuse, especially if its Xbox only.

Could have built a very nice PC for the money spent on consoles is sort of true, but its location dependent.
A good PC for $600 is common, a good PC for 450 Euros is not, nor is it for £350, us has cheaper PC parts, annoyingly so.

Excluding graphics cards, updating and so on, I'll point out the main benefit of consoles, optimization, consoles force developers to plan ahead, to think whats going to slow them down. Which means when a PC port does come along its not going to require ridiculous hardware, FF13 and 13-2 are examples of this (yes yes they are bad PC ports, but thats not the point, they still don't require insane hardware). MGSGZ is another example of that.

PC gaming IS awesome, but people keep trying to compare it with consoles, and a large portion of the time the comparisons don't quite work as its 2 different markets. Even from the perspective of lets say a parent who's not tech savvy, buy their kid a PS4 or Xbox or WiiU and they know they can only buy what they want to buy the kid. Give the kid a PC and access to internet, they need to be a little tech savvy to setup firewalls, antivirus, user account protection. And even then they still run the risk of their kid hitting porn, or games above his age group, or the general 'fear of the internet', consoles don't have this.

Now yes this is stupid parents, but you should also consider how many people really are like that anyway, a console is just easier in many ways, especially as a gift.

on 3.36 your only option to play psp backups is to install the latest VHBL exploit via either patapon 1 or patapon 2 purchased from the PSN store, id eb quick though because they will pull them im guessing monday, release a new firmware then bring the games back to buy so you have to update to get them unless you have a PS3 to transfer the games over when ever.

http://wololo.net/2015/01/23/the-next-upcoming-exploit-game-for-ps-vita-firmware-3-36-is/
get this going, then you need to use the bubble hack, this will let you create a bubble to launch a psp game with.

If you had firmware 3.18 or lower you could of installed a eCFW and played what ever PSP and PS1 roms from a nice menu.

Hey I have 3.18! Thanks. I think I'll install eCFW right now.

If you're after more info on vita hacking, then take a look at wololo.net thats where most of its kept track of.

Its all simple stuff really. Like you I only use it to play PSP iso's, I own PSP games but never owned a PSP. I just wanted to physically own them.

All that stuff works up until 3.36 which is what I'm on. Whether the next update will destroy all that, its impossible to say just yet. So far only a few games need higher than 3.18 it seems.

ARK cannot do all that, TN-V on 3.18 can, also 3.36 cannot run the PS1 Loader for PERFECT ps1 compatibility, plus you wont be able to use TN-X when it comes out in a few months, 3.18 can.... please dont spread you can do all on 3.36 when you cant, it gives people the wrong idea.

Oh my bad.
I'm playing some PS1 games via ARK, they're not eboots, they're just the games I downloaded from PS store.

But I'm yet to hit a PSP game I couldn't play via Ark.

PS1 Loader loads straight up PS1 game ISO's right? Not converted eboots like what ARK would use. I've not tried any PS1 eboots just yet, will do in future though as I wanted to play Breath of Fire IV again.

EDIT: Tried PS1 eboot, no sound, I'd heard someone say it somewhere before but was never sure if it was eboots or ISO's. Bit sad as I really wanted to play breath of Fire IV again...

As said above, you can play PSP Iso's and homebrews, including custom bubbles, but PS1 games will have no sound.

Welp. I didn't even have a Vita until today. No hope I guess.

You can still put it to good use, when ever there is a break through then you can make use of the firmware you are on so don't update any further.

When I bought a vita only 3.01 was the one to have and now it's moved up to 3.18... Keep faith :)

Is there anything I can do to block updates? Or is there even automatic updating at all?

Just keep your vita in plane mode if you are worried, but you only get the option to upgrade if you goto the store or goto update through settings. They are not as anal as Nintendo lol.

It all depends what you want to do, if you want to do PS1 games then you need 3.18 if you only want PSP games and homebrew you're okei up until 3.36.

Well the filthy peasant inclined me to make use of the ignore functionality here.

Anyways, I have a slim vita in my possession 3.36 and still my phat @ 3.15. I will try transferring between the two w/o a ps3 which in various spots is indicated may or may not work.

Additionally I did pick up a ps3 (hey if it's not a gimped version it's not bad and cheaper than the SGI indigo 2 that I bought last summer) cecha01 from the egg. (Filthy peasantry won't understand that reference...)

[EDIT]
...and truly just for clarification I'd NEVER heard of this pc masterrace thing until a few months ago on reddit, and seeing this thing's response, I can fully AND entirely understand the sentiment... now.

Hmm... the builtin ignore is MUCh better than greasemonkey's which leaves traces... }:D

This guy is giving me kirito-kun vibes.
I haven't the faintest idea what kirito-kun is if you are referring to me, but by god mech made me truly understand the sentiments of the pc master race fully with her misguided idiotic attacks in borked english(?).

I'm still at a loss at how ANY hardware that I've purchased in the last 9y in any way shape or form subsidized her toys and misguided consumer electronic purchases, or at least the ones here.
Intel processors: check
nVidia GPUs: check

hmmm.... let's see
ps4/xbone AMD crap x86 quad core with gimped gfx: check
specially built only for use in toys: check
crap AMD/ATI drives: check
There's nothing in this list that has benefited from an system building that I have done prior to 1/2014 hence there is no subsidization at all unless you consider nVidia utilizing TSMC's fabrication facilities(along with every other fuckwit on the planet) subsidization. Hell she's subsidized me more by having purchased a 50" TV although in a rather vague and tenuous way as I'd rather use my Oculus DK2 and have what essentially amounts to a full size theatre in my face.

Although I will admit to having spent ~$550 on a 780 Ti in Nov 2013(most that I've ever spent on a single component by ~$150) and having built an fx9590/r9280x(again no help for her 9y old toys BTW this entire system cost less than $500), and then there is oh wait, the kaveri a10-7850k build hmmm... again no help for nearly decade old tech(although this isn't much better than HSA), etc.

Mm, so for those who missed Patapon2 and etc. exploit games - like me - there's no way to play psp games for now, huh.
then I'd like to ask something. if I'll stay on 3.36 vita, and obviously won't be able to run PSN if there will be an update, I still can buy & download psn games on ps3, then just copy to my vita, am I right?
(p.s. actually, it was never my intention to hack vita, it's only because ff-0 won't release on PS3 and UGH I want to play this game)
