people don't seem to realize that they don't release it
to spite us they just don't want to release sonic 06
murder edition
Well with sonic 06 they sped it up when it was supposed to come out in summer of 07 and half the crew left to work on secret rings.

Sounds good to me! Waiting to see a truly awesome version of GTA V!
Sucks for people who live for GTA though, :P

I really hope they are really developing it and postponing it to clean it up further, rather than "OH SHIT WE WERE SITTING ON OUR ASSES AND WE HAVE TO RELEASE TOMORROW... DELAY PLZ!"
When it comes out, we will know for sure if the delays were worth it :)

At this point I'm starting to get the same feeling I got when Duke Nukem Forever got pushed back yet again, even though stores were already selling preorder copies by then.

Maybe it won't be that bad this time. Maybe....

Game is nearly 2 years old

I feel sorry for those people who only game on PC
I feel sorry for those who played (or rather watched at this point) the game at sub-20 fps, 20 feet object pop-in, and 720p. Myself included. Can't really have detailed open world games performing like shit while having a tiny ass resolution.

Delays are always a good thing. Anyone's favourite game could have been made better by a delay. People are way too obsessed with meeting release dates. The solution, as always: don't preorder ever, as it's stupid to do so in the first place.

To be fair, Duke Nukem Forever was a special case. It was scrapped and started from scratch multiple times throughout its life and was basically between development and finally reaching production just to go back to development hell over and over. We already know GTA V is a quality game. It's just a matter of making sure the PC version is quality as well.

The better solution is to not give a release date until you're 100% sure. If they had made the release date April 14th in the first place, people would have been a little irked at how far away it was, but much less irked than they have been by the multiple delays. Rockstar should know better by now, nobody needs to be making excuses for them.

Yeah this goes deep in the habit of having to give a specific release date several months before, when you have no idea if it'll be actually ready. I don't think developers could ever have the capacity to give proper release dates, I've read a lot of people who made some of the most respected of the last two decades, saying their games were still rushed to meet a release date. I think the developing process is too complex to plan out in the long term like that.

At fault are again people falling victim to the hype machine and getting easily controlled by the press or publisher. The current AAA market thrives in over-hyping the magical release date; openly lying during pre-release is also pretty much a standard on several levels, both from the press (and the smaller youtubers/streamers) and the developers. Apparently it works, I have no idea how.

After all we are talking about an industry where a developer publicly laments that buying a review site's ad space should grant them a positive score on their game, and he wasn't fired (or hanged) on the spot.

Okay, but Rockstar is the publisher. And this isn't a brand-new game we're talking about, or different considerations might be made. Simply don't give a release date until the developers (also Rockstar) are confident in the amount of time they need to finish. This is how every AAA studio should work. The only reason they don't is pre-orders. I'm really starting to hate those. Especially in regards to PC games.

Wrong, matey.
If a company isn't 100% positive that they can release a game by a certain date, don't set a release date. It's that simple. I'd rather not know a release date than be hyped and awaiting the release when all of a sudden, the game gets delayed.

Yes! Yes!
Pre orders and early access releases are so frustrating. The issue is that people continue to pay for the games (Including me, on occasion) and then publishers realize that they can continue to get away with it.

Edit: Sorry for the double post =(
