I bought this switched jack http://www.mouser.com/Search/Produc...irtualkey50210000virtualkey502-35RASMT4BHNTRX.

And I wired up GND to Pin 4, right to pin 3 left to pin 1 and I thought it worked correctly because I could hear the internal speakers normally and I could hear through a pair of loud computer speakers when I plugged them in but the internal speakers were so piddly that it took me a while to notice they weren't being disabled.

So where did I go wrong? I tried connecting ground from the jack to Pins 5 and then 6 but neither worked, anyone have any advice I'm stumped.

With loud speakers it's hard to notice the GBASP is still pumping music but with headphones it's problematic.

Well pin 5 has to connect to GND in order to disable the speakers and my headphones form a closed circuit when a jack is NOT plugged in so the switch on them is useless. There's a 'hole' in the base of the tip contact in my headphone socket, so I put a small screw (that I made smaller with bolt cutters) through the side of the socket into that hole so the arm that compresses when a jack is plugged in would touch the screw, I then connected that screw to the ground pin. I haven't wired everything up but the multimeter test came out perfect, I'll connect GND to PIN 6 on the GBASP and then I'll connect pin 1 and pin 5 to audio tip contact when a jack is plugged in PIN 6, PIN 5, and PIN 1 should form a closed circuit.

I have two big concerns the screw gets pushed a little out of place and I'm concerned that the screw will one day pop completely out, hot glue and electrical tape should solve that, my second concern is making more than one of these (I'm not made of tiny screws and the other GBASPs I started this mod on are tighter fits and can't have wires and screws on the side of the socket).

I did find an interesting version of this mod.

I'm going to try it next and see if it really does mute internal speakers, I don't quite understand everything going on with it.

EDIT: thx

It's done but I'm bit disappointed in the job I did, I ended up mangling things a bit more than was necessary and had a couple of 'oh shit there's a 10x easier way to do that moments'. The headphones are a bit hissy but that seems to be a common complaint against gbasp headphones, I'm going to attempt to make heads or tales of this pro-sound mod http://nex.gg8.se/modblog/2010/06/totally-kitted-out-gameboy-sp/ but while I figured out the ags 001 version I doubt I'll make much headway with this ags101 one.

Having headphones in a place that doesn't block use of L/R is nice and I didn't remove any screws which is nice too.
