Hey All,

Wanted to ask your opinion. I have an opportunity to have a portable Wii built for $1,300, but am torn if I should do it or not. I commute 4 hours a day, and the games on the NDS and the PSP are not cutting it any longer. It's like they are not even trying.

The reason I am thinking of having this built is because technically the Wii is multiple systems in one. I have a Wii at home currently and barely ever play it because I have a newborn that I have fun with instead. So I would be able to play all the Wii games I failed to finish. In addition there is the GC games that can be played and the great WiiWare titles. I never had a GC and there is plenty of games for that as well.

The only problem I see is the price quote. It is a bit steep. I priced out the components and it looks like I will be charged around $700 for the work. This Wii portable would have:

1- Sundriver so that I can play GC games off a harddrive
2- A 10.4" screen
3- 4 hours of battery life
4- A head phone jack
5- All standard ports (GC, USB, SD and Wii)
6- Large Harddrive

Would you guys do this if you were me and had a long commute daily?

NO. The Wii's sensor bar has to be at least five feet (or something) for it to work properly, and so that rules out keeping it on your lap. Where else would you put it?

I'd say no. Even though the Wii is relatively smaller, it's still bulky for being portable by itself. Not to mention with all the other stuff it'd just make you look like someone with an older-than-time laptop.

Personally, I'd just buy a nice laptop with all that cash. There's tons of emus that you can use. Even my craptop can run N64/PSX games well. If you get a good one, you should be fine. Not to mention you'll have tons of other stuff to do and it'll overall be more useful.

So overall I'd say no. It's too pricey and you'd probably regret it in the end. You'll look like a fool trying to waggle your remote on a subway.

Just wait for the RUMOURED DS2 which might have motion.
Then problem solved instantly.
why, will that support gamecube games, wii games, and wiiware?
...Possibly.

No, it really will not. But perhaps the new controls is all he needs.

You should get an iPod Touch. It's portable, and has many fun games, and the lite (free) versions of them are lots of fun. You can also jailbreak it, and do even more.

The "Sensorbar" is no problem.
Placing the IRemitters closer together should decrease the min (and max) distance.
Bulkiness is more of a problem here, do you realy want to carry this around?
I would go for a small Laptop/Netbook.

Let me clarify here, this would be a laptop Wii. So the components would get stripped from the Wii and put into a laptop shell.

It should be no bigger then a 11 Inch laptop. The weight should be ok as well.

Get a portable xbox360 instead.
Or just settle with a portable gamecube ( which I assume would be cheaper?), because a portable Wii would kind of be pointless.

Awesome idea but $1300 is a bit steep in my opinion.

All in components would be hit around $550 (wi 250- sundriver 70, LCD- 100, 12V battery- 50 and that leaves a bit for the miscellaneous extras) meaning they want $750 for building the thing. While I am more than happy to accept professional prices for professional work that still seems on the steep side of things.

Currently there is no portable PS3 or XBOX360. They cannot run on batteries at the moment.

I just got back what would most likely be the final specs. It would look like a Netbook pretty much. I would be 9x8x3.

Also, if I just use my Wii and skip on the sunchip, it would be $1K.

Also, for the person who said buy something for my son, I do. This is birthday/christmas/etc money I have saved up. Every dime and nickel goes to my house and son.

I barely buy anything year round. So yeah, this would seem steep if I hadn't saved money for a year now and I am debating what to do with it. So far I was thinking of doing one of the following with it:

- Get a new TV, but the TV I have is still fine. It is HD but is 10 years old so it only supports component, no HDMI
- Build a HTPC
- Other, which this falls under

I think I have the right to spend gift money on myself.

Make a portable, 1 unit system that plays Wii, Xbox360, Gamecube and PS3!
Throw in also Dreamcast, PS2, 1, and N64 and SNES, Genesis, NeoGeo, NES!
