2TB is the limit if you use internal drive.

And what's the limit for SMB, regardless if the PC or an external HDD connected to it is used?

EDIT: It seems only a specific OPL Beta version supports over 2 TB internal HDDs/SSDs/SSHDs (it supports until 144 PB), at least for now. They have to be formatted on the PC as GPT and exFAT to work in this version. The official OPL versions only support the APA partition table and wLE can format the internal HDD/SSD/SHD to it (and the file system they get is PFS, which is a proprietary file system used by Sony).

Ok, but are there already SATA-converted PS2 Sony Network Adapter for sale?
There are SATA converted official network adapters and there are third party SATA Network Adapters, which ironically don't have working network ports.

If you want to use SMB then make sure you get an official network adapter. Though really if you are going for SMB then a ps2 slim is much quieter.

I swapped from a fat ps2 with an internal drive to a slim over smb because of the noise (though back then I was also using SMS for watching movies).

I recently tried MX4SIO, but the one game I tend to play has major compatibility issues (you have to use a usb controller).

What's SMS? Does OPL via SMB have a storage limit?

May the PC where the USB device is connected to while running OPL via SMB go to sleep, and if so, may the games freeze on the PS2? If so, how to prevent it?

If using OPL via SMB and a USB device which has the games connected to my PC, may the latter go to sleep and the games crash on the PS2, and if so, how to avoid it?
I use a NAS, my NAS usually stays awake because there is enough activity (especially if the game streams music).

I don't have a NAS. Is 2 TB the maximum storage OPL supports, whether it's a HDD/SSD/SSHD, USB device, SD/microSD card (MX4SIO) and i.LINK device?

Yes, though there might be a total game limit as it has to load all the names. Though if you get problems, raise a bug report.

If I disable sleep mode on Windows, games won't freeze on the PS2 in OPL via SMB or they may still since they're on an USB device connected to the PC and not on the PC's HDD/SSD/eMMC/SSHD?

Do you know if having some processes running or Windows hibernating may freeze the PS2 if using OPL via SMB?

It would be unable to load anything if you hibernate windows, but then I'm not sure why you would do that.

I think the worst problem you will get is stuttering during cut scenes, and potentially data loading slower over SMB

I wouldn't do that, Windows would.

Would it be slower if playing from an USB device connected to the PC or directly from the PC?
