Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn will actually support all models of 3DS

When Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn was shown in the latest Nintendo Direct, nothing was mentioned in regards to any limitations on playing the game. However, the official Nintendo website noted that the game would exclusively play only on New models of the 3DS and 2DS. Now, Nintendo has ammended their listing of the game to remove all mention of that fact, meaning that Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn will be playable on all 3DS family systems, and that the prior listing was merely a mistake. The port of the 2010 Wii game will launch for the 3DS later next year.

The hit Wii game Kirby’s Epic Yarn is warping to Nintendo 3DS. Every stage in the original Wii version is stitched in, but this Nintendo 3DS version has some new features, like the ability to craft bigger yarn balls, summon bead-collecting wind and play two new modes featuring familiar faces King Dedede and Meta Knight.

Eee I've got all sorts in my house, from O3DS to N3DS, even a 2DS....(missus and kids), and while I do of course know the New is the best performer, I'm quite content playing on my Zelda LBW special edition O3DS, so this is great news for me!
Just a shame we have to wait until next year for it! At least I've got the Wii version: the Snow Land levels (alongside Christmas NiGHTS) are essential pre-chrimbo gaming for me!

I didn't know they made a special edition LBW O3DS. That's really cool. I have the Hyrule N3DS and it's pretty cool looking, too.

This is cool news. I didn't like Epic Yarn, but it's cool to see it works on all models of the 3DS.

I've said that before and I'll do it again. The New 3DS is only in terms of CPU power superior to the old 3DS, the GPU is identical. And most games which lag on the 3DS are GPU bound(which means the GPU is stressed 100%, rendering the frame takes longer than it should because the GPU is too slow).
You can try that yourself, you probably already have, by enabling the extra CPU clock speed via your CFW or whatever. As you probably know from your experience Pokemon still lags, because it's performance is limited by the GPU.
Pokemon is very light on the CPU, it's turn based and the AI isn't very strong either. And if you consider how high-poly(detailed) the models(they use them in Let's go and probably even in the 2019 Pokemon game) are it's no surprise that the GPU of the 3ds is struggling with keeping up the framerate.
For Games, which are (partly) CPU bound, like for example Hyrule Warriors, which has a more complex AI and a lot of 3d animation, the N3DS offers a performance improvement.

You can probably answer the question yourself, why there aren't more N3ds exclusives: because the developers don't want to loose customers. But to add to that even if one decides to make his game N3ds exclusive, there isn't much he gains from a technical standpoint. An a bit stronger processor and one useable processor core more, do make the difference between 20-40 FPS and 60 FPS, for example in more accurate emulation, but for most games the advantage is neglegible, especially considering that the GPU going to restrict you anyway sooner or later.

Probably. Or it will be optimized for O3DS, making the game play like ass for everybody. Remember Pokemon Sun/Moon and UltraSun/UltraMoon? Those were alalso optimized for O3DS and not N3DS, so the framerate came to a grinding halt on both systems. If it was N3DS only, it would have been fine.
yeah but you could change some settings in luma to slightly make things better

Dammit... There's no need to support O3DS anymore. Most people own N3DS hardware by now. I want to see more N3DS exclusives! Stuff that really pushes the hardware to it's limits! Xenoblade is about all there is!!!
eeehhh nop
i'm glad it's not an exclusive, it would be a retarded decision, good that it will be released for every 3ds system i never played this kirb : )

Ooo, had to google the Hyrule n3ds - nice! Here's a pic of the one I've got:
Zelda-3DS-ALBW.jpg

I don't usually go for the SE models but thought it was too nice to pass up.

Anyway... ladsss, calm down - Epic Yarn is just a 2D platformer when all's said and done! Aside from perhaps improved loading times there's nothing that'll really require the extra power of a N3DS over an old one. If this was another 3D Pokemon then I can understand your point, but Epic Yarn? WTF peeps...

Whatever, no need to be smarmy with my opinion.

I wouldn't consider it smarmy. If Nintendo was still selling Wii games, it's not like I'd scoff at it... Well, okay, I would, but only for the obvious reason that Nintendo is also the hardware seller so they have every reason to make "exclusives" to encourage sales. So, it's scoffing for the absurdity of a hardware maker actually carrying about its older hardware customers and not just pushing for obsolescence. Of course, I'd probably feel a lot different if the New 3DS had actually been a substantial improvement all around (especially in the resolution department) which would have justified pushing for more exclusivity. As it stands, only CPU heavy tasks like emulation tend to make much specific sense in the exclusivity camp--with a handful of exception titles.

I have an O3DS, I've never seen the point of spending another $200 to buy the same console all over again for a lightly upgraded console. I don't care much for the 3D aspect of the console, so the better 3D doesn't attract me much, and I've never played a whole lot of games that play with a FPS that low. If I eventually find one for a decent price, I'll get my hands on one, but until then I'll keep my old 3DS that keeps working.

Let's be real guys. There's no reason for this game to be a n3DS exclusive, it's a freaking 2D platformer. If they can't make it run smoothly on o3DS they're doing something wrong.
That should have been done with Pokemon... We don't have a single Pokémon game optimized for N3DS hardware, and we never will.
Pokemon was held back by the GPU which is the same on o3DS and n3DS. Increasing the clock speed with CFW barely had an effect at all. Game Freak just doesn't know how to optimize 3D games. Look at their new title Town, it looks awful for a Switch game.
