But man, even if it gets hacked ¿is there any guarantee that we will be able to run ROMs for future nintendo game releases?? Yes i´m a noob but i didn´t update (yet)
ROMs for future releases?
You mean Switch backups?
Down the line, yeah, I think so.
The sm: vulnerability apparently gives any user root access to the system, so I am betting once we start seeing some homebrew in it, it won't be long for backup loading to appear.

And the Switch's hardware architecture is ARM, same as most Android devices (and the 3DS).

And guess what cores are available for ARM architecture in RetroArch?
PCSX ReARMed, Mupen64 Plus, Dolphin, Reicast, Picodrive and many more which were missing from the Wii U release due to the PPC architecture of the system.

To me PSX and N64 alone are worth waiting for, more so since I can bet you both kidneys that Nintendo won't release many great games from the N64, like they've been doing since the Wii.
Add to this the possibility of a Kodi media player, all of Nintendo's backwards catalogue with RetroArch and the fact that most Wii U big titles are getting ports, and yeah...

Don't expect me to fucking update.

Fuck yeah. You just basically summed up my reason for staying exactly where I am.

Yes ShadowOne333, I ment switch backups. But shouldn´t we need new decription keys for future switch releases? I really don´t care about emulating old nintendo games but you make a really solid point with the viability of RetroArch on switch

I'd assume it works the same as the 3DS, every 3DS comes with its own generated private key. Whenever a 3DS game is created and manufactured, it is encrypted with a separate pre-defined key. In the way that encryption works, the key on the 3DS can decrypt the key from the game cartridge allowing it to be played. I'm not sure exactly how the encryption algorithm works and only know that they have a relationship to each other as such.

Do you know what FW version Splatoon 2 has?

That would be a solid issue if we didn't have root access
But perhaps newer games would take some time to get working, who knows?
At the moment it's all speculation, we don't yet if Nintendo will do the same with the Switch games as what happened with the 3DS.

But I am almost sure the hackers will sort it out eventually

You won't be playing post-3.0.1 games on an early FW Switch. It's a lot more than just missing some keys.

This a 3DS it is not.

Also there seems to be some general misunderstanding on what access we do have in the Switch.

Or how that access and the source of all the dumps is gone as of 3.0.1. Before you start playing new games on old FW, you have to first get access to them and decrypt them without the Switch doing the work for you now. Perhaps try spinning the cart on your finger?

Not if emunand gets created for the switch, play what we like on less then 3.0.0 then.

Not really an easy thing to do with the Switch. You'd have to hardmod it to bypass the fuse safeguard on firmware checks.
