"Night Trap will never appear on a Nintendo Console." Nintendo of America President, Howard Lincoln during the 1994 congressional hearings on video game violence.

Well at least they're honest.
the ds won't replace the gba

Hey guys, sorry that I dropped off from the conversation but some really weird stuff happened and I just didn't have the patience to talk gaming.

You obviously did not realise what i wrote exactly. I HAVE a neo geo and i love it. I HAVE jrpgs and i love them. i HAVE indies and i love them. However, compared to how mediocre some generalised jrpgs have become and how boring some indies have become, my answer was that i would play this instead for a spin. Nowhere did i say there are no good indies, jrpgs or neo geo titles.

Taste is personal. I already said it is not the best game. I would play it out of interest and nostalgia, not because i think it is the best.

However, it does not matter to me the slightest bit if the press and people like a game, if i dont. Everybody gave BOTW 10. I disagree. You say splatoon is hailed, but all i see is a nintendo's clone of COD for the nintendo fanbase. Tried it, not for me, much like 99% of online games or games leaning heavily on the online side.

However, here is where you are wrong: Personal taste has NOTHING TO DO with releasing games or not. If we would simply decide as fans which games should and should not be released, i would object to Splatoon for example. Why spend precious development time on it rather than let's say Metroid? Or F-Zero?

So, releasing something should really only be about business, variety and openness. After all, i said it before, the Wii was the biggest shovelware party together with the Ps2. You dont like it, dont buy it. I am happy YOU can find games you like, so why you would not be happy for something someone else might enjoy is beyond me, no matter how crap you think it is.
Have you also noticed that Nintendo seems to be more strict on their third party policies? The reason this PORT isn't coming to the Switch differs from why we're getting NEW shovelware. The game flopped once. The genre already died. What good business sense can come from this? If they accepted it? That's saying they'll accept any trashed port of a failed 90s game.

Our opinions don't necessarily dictate the video game business. "If you don't like it, don't buy it." Right? Still costs money to host it, print it, market it..

This thread is just one big "i-it's okay when Nintendo does it!"

It's one thing for Nintendo to refuse to have Night Trap on the Switch to begin with, but to initially agree and then do a complete 180° a few days later for seemingly no reason? Regardless of what you think of Night Trap or whether it should be on the Switch in the first place, that's a scummy thing to do.

"But the Switch needs more exposure and more games"
And to that i say it doesn't, the Switch already had enough exposure and it does have games and more games are coming out this year.
Yes I understand what your saying it does need "exposure" for the site to tell others what up and coming titles are for the Nintendo Switch but this guy doesn't give anyone else a chance who would possibly like to post Nintendo Switch content as well but he posts threads up like its going out of fashion you only have to look at the main columns! and like I said who died and made him King of the Nintendo Switch threads!

You mention business. Nintendo is a business and the marketing team will constantly evaluate trends, figures, and what is selling versus what is not. That's why it's not a good idea to allocate advertising and server-hosting resources to something when it could be filled with something that will make them money.

In my restaurant, if I see a promotion at other restaurants that turned out poor in sales and quality, there is no way I'm bringing that into my restaurant when I have the occasional one customer a month telling me I should have it on the menu. The cost of ingredients alone is not worth the lack of profit made on creating it for the immense minority of customers, never mind the cost of anything else to produce it.

Whoa, whoa whoa, damage control. If things were different, and Nintendo approved Night Trap would you guys be slagging the game off? Have you complained about some of the worthless games that have come out (i.e. that awful looking witch one)?

Night Trap is an awful game. I love it! It has a strong element of "so bad it's good". Kinda like The Room of video games. The upcoming 25th Anniversary Edition uses footage obtained from a copy of the master. It looked awful on Sega CD and pretty shitty on the 32X, 3DO, and PC. Now we can actually see the game in glorious SD. Not to mention full frame rate. The camera previews adds a whole new gameplay element. That's great because this sucker only barely qualifies as a game in the first place.

Nintendo should have approved the game. I can't be the only person geek'd out for this game. Besides, the Switch could have finally gotten a multiplat that is superior on the Switch rather than inferior. The game has the graphics of an ATM machine so the Switch would actually be able to run it. Also the touchscreen would be great to use for the game. Take a Night Trap crap.

wheres the legal document they signed locking this in?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Record as a statement "for the record", meaning it has been published somewhere in there as a "secondary authority".
and more on how to get a record: https://www.senate.gov/reference/common/faq/how_to_committe_hrg.htm but they only seem to have house records here, I'm sure there's some horrendous roundabout way to get a copy.
nothing explicitly signed, however it is generally more embarrassing to turn your back on what you say in a courtroom testimony than to disallow a title from sale. Their statement about the GBA doesn't leave them looking shitty in the eyes of governance, turning on this is more likely to - albeit unlikely seeing as much has changed, but when has Nintendo been very ahead of the curve on anything? Again, Howard Lincoln is actually a lawyer, I'm unsurprised they would want to refer to his words in a hearing.

though I suppose if they wanted to they could just go jp only or not in the us in general but everywhere else and say those words were only thoughts of the us devision of Nintendo, though who knows what Nintendo will do next, they are pretty unpredictable at times

If there is a video game goddess, please help me now. I just want one thing. Mega Man 11.

Oh and umm.... could you please tell tecmo to stop making costume dlc for DOA5 THERE IS ENOUGH! :ninja:
Really? Not a eternal champions hd game, maybe snatcher? Spiderman vs kingpin LUNAR? SHINING FORCE, POPFUL MAIL! You know games people actually care about. No is NIGHT TRAP, the most controversial game of 1992 next to mortal kombat.

Nice analogy, but using something completely wrong as the base of it. A restaurant as you said needs ingredients etc. Here we are talking about a physical release that someone else manufactures (or pays you to - so you money even if they dont!) which means no lost money on a gamble of a meal gone wrong, so you have to toss the ingredients away. Same for server hosting etc, the digital downloads do not have a cost to 'make', so the retail price of it more than covers for this given you are not paying for packaging, distribution etc.

Anyway to each his own, i would prefer a platform to be more open to shit games, after all what me and you consider shit is different. And if you want to gauge success, the orders went live on Friday and people bought all copies in minutes. Yes, no zelda or mario beater but sales nonetheless.

Yes, money that will get taken from the person doing the gamble of releasing the game. Not by nintendo. At the end of the day, if it does not sell, people will not release similar stuff. Think of it as testing the waters. Yes, nitendo is strict. This is what we are discussing.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

One would think that, but here we are with a remaster of Night Trap of all games :rofl2:

You seem to forget we are in the middle of a retro games hype? If in doubt, check how much does it cost to get the original on Sega CD or 3DO. Not sure about the States but here in the UK a 3do version will cost you £50+, if you are 'lucky' to find one. This obviously comes out right now, not because of any other reason but because of retro mania. Same reason why Wonder Boy got a re-release (ignoring the quality of the titles, the reason is the same). People are climbing on the gravy train, as long as it goes.
