I feel like this is the last big thing missing from the molding scene. It would be great to play GameCube and Wii games on it and you can use it while someone else is on the tv. Nintendo themselves said you'd be able to use the Wii u gamepad as a classic controller in Wii games that supported it when they announced digital Wii games. So Nintendo must have already coded it, which may help. Thoughts?

Have you not seen any of the 10000 other threads on this site asking that question. In future you should search the site to see if your question has already been asked. Sorry if I sound rude but I'm not kidding your question gets asked at least twice a week on the site and the answer is always the same. It's not possible now but might be one day or then again it might not.

It is a mode that vWii can be launched into that makes the Gamepad emulate a Wiimote with a Classic Controller plugged in. It should be fairly easy to make a channel on the Wii U side that launches vWii into this mode on the System Menu from what I understand.

Been busy with other things so I have yet to try. Thanks for the reminder.

Apologies. I knew this was asked before but I hadn't seen a thread asking this in a good while and I was wondering if there were any development so I wanted an up to date answer.

Well, good luck making it.

you forget that the games that support the wiiu gamepad have their own fw.img and cios to launch this mode wich arent found on vwii at all.

That does not mean they could not be used in this manner. Plus the Wii VC needs to be able to load software off of the Wii U side, not the vWii side so the differences might just be with disc I/O.

several devs looked at it and said its a mess, its not trivial at all, on the wii e shop game starts you loose all your wiiu hooks since it enters on moded vwii so you cant even debug most of what is going on, but i am all for it if you can make it happen you will make alot of people happy including me.

The big problem with this is that in order to debug and reverse engineer it, you need a physical connection to the Wii U's motherboard, because any software you run to send debugging information over the network is flushed when the system reboots into the modified vWii mode.

Hey, Nintendo, maybe one of the big reasons for the Wii U's commercial failure (besides abysmal marketing) was your refusal to do simple things to allow the consumer to easily tap more of the device's full potential? Such as a settings menu you can open on the GamePad in vWii (maybe using the TV Remote interface?) that would let you "plug" the GamePad into one of the four Bluetooth ports as a Classic Controller or Wii Remote Plus (using the touch screen to emulate pointer controls - it wouldn't be perfect, but it'd be worth a try)

Of course, asking homebrew devs to do all that is stupid. They're having a hard enough time getting the basic support working. But Nintendo could have done it. They have the source code, and the signing keys for both the Wii U's OS and the GamePad's too.

Well it'll be a little hard (the bluetooth part) since wii is not using bluetooth (like the xbox controllers). Just hoping we could get the gamepad working soon

wii uses infrared (ir); ps3 uses bluetooth; and, the xbox 360 uses radio frequencies (rf).

edit: also, I was under the impression that the gamepad did not use bluetooth, but rather some other sort of wireless connection.
