Xbox One X announced

ss+(2017-06-11+at+04.04.50).jpg

Phil Spencer calls the console "the most powerful console ever made". Featuring 6 teraflops of GPU power and 12 gigabytes of memory, the console is designed to run games in 4K HDR including 4K Bluray playback. It will feature compatibility with all Xbox One accessories and games, running even older games at 4K, using supersampling and anisotropic filtering to make the games look better on 4K as well as 1080p TVs. The system will be liquid-cooled as well. It is also the smallest Xbox yet. The system is set to launch worldwide on November 7th. The price will be $499 USD.

Name is a disappointment but I'm cautiously optimistic otherwise. Let's see how this goes.
I hopeful they'll release a Xbox One E further down the line....
Then we'll have a..
Xbox One S
Xbox One E
Xbox One X

lolol

That name though. Zero creativity lol. IDK looks like another overpowered, overpriced, counsel. I hope they prove me wrong. Microsoft should just start making gaming PCs instead of these repetitive more unessisarily powerful consoles cau.... oh wait. They make those already. :P

Exactly. Especially for existing Xbox One/S owners. They certainly aren't going to pay $500 for a whole other console. And the fact that it's $100 more then the Xbox One's original launch price makes it worse.

What they might be considering is trading their old consoles in since they keep everything they already had, even external hard drive with games is plug and play without the need to dl games again so it'll be more like $400 to make everything you have run better (like for those who upgrade their PCs).

With popular multiplayer games like PUBG, Path of Exile and Black Desert making their way into Xbox, those 2nd hand Xbox One S units will make a good deal for $100 or less for prospective buyers IMO.

Yes, what I hope from Nintendo's big E3 is that they don't pull another of those "look sarkwalvein, you are dumb and bought a console yet again for Xenoblade, here are we yet again to fuck you and delay it to 2018 (ps: and then to 2019)"
I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to do something like that. (Is that how its said?)
English: Ya, I bet will they will do something like that.

Microsoft is well known for its terrible naming. It's like the employ a dumbass to name their shit.

I don't think it matters in this case though.

It's clearly being set up as the "enthusiast" option to sit alongside the normal console, just like ps4 & ps4pro.

Don't have to worry about confusion there as generally the ethusiast is already well informed and knows what they want.

But if it's enthusiast, where's the RGB?

I can see that. Clearly they're pushing for the X1X to be working alongside the X1S, not as a replacement. Will be interesting to see how this one pans out.

Nice specs for the price, getting competitive to the same range PC. The "giving new standards for game development" is debatable. PC games have surpassed console quality by miles for a long time, and this won't get that trophy back. If you say however that this will help cross platforms to be developed having a higher end base threshold, that may be right, although it should be only because in the PC-PS4-XO environment, the lowest common denominator is no longer XBox but PS4, or is it, considering the possibility of Microsoft still sell the XBox S in the near to medium term future.

I still expect most games to be outputted at 30fps, with few exceptions, most likely some exclusives, more optimized games or least demanding games. I hope it allows 60fps for all games at 1080p though.

I'm happy with it, considering price/specs, although I moderate my enthusiasm until more is shown or it is released. I'd trade its smallness for venting space and air cooling.

Well, I didn't even think about a "trading" option.
I would probably go for that, but not paying $400, more like let me trade it and I pay $300, and I am in. (I could probably sell it for 150 anyway, but PITA)

But naturally, the original Xbox One and PS4 have to be supported or else people will quite literally riot. Those two are the lowest common denominators that still have to be looked out for. In the future, I can see studios getting half-assed with their games and not placing enough optimization time on their normal XB1/PS4 versions. That would be much further down the line if the PS4 Pro and X1X receive a big enough market share.

I do agree that the specs are quite good for the price, and that the optimization brought by its custom hardware will let it run games run pretty well and go toe-to-toe with some high-end PCs. Naturally, we should expect at least 30fps 4K and 60fps 1080p for all games. Having some choice in graphics options like on the PS4 Pro would be nice. Not everyone cares for Dynamic Super Resolution-like tech and would rather have the game pushing other kinds of eye candy.

So the vapour cooling didnt sell you?

Nah. I'm not even a fan of water cooling on desktops. If you have a decent case and plan your airflow right, water cooling isn't much more effective, with due exceptions. Water cooling is usually a good solution for when you have little space. But it is more expensive and quite frankly, the small form factor is, in my view unnecessary, even if for marketing purposes (you could as easily sell that bigger is better).

Well I mean, they could have easily called it XBox Two and the PS Pro, PlayStation 5 and start a new cycle. That wouldn't riot people but it is uneeded and uncalled for at this point. I am not complaining. I don't think console gaming needs better graphics at the moment. If someone is too worried about graphics, that person should invest on a PC. Console games should be focused on being fun, they got to a stage were they are graphically good enough, although they needed this little extra efford to follow the fashion of 4K TVs, and, as I believe, at this point, trying to bring costs down.

Great console microsoft too bad will never have games that appeal to the masses.

This whole mid-cycle console hardware refresh idea is a flawed one, more so for microsoft their console has been inferior from the get go, the bottleneck for this console will be the specs difference between the base model ps4 and xbone, not every dev will go through the hassle of optimising games for the "superior" hardware because it won't make a major difference in sales same can be said for the ps4 pro, both of these will fail just like VR, they need to look at whats important, and its the catalogue of games that sell systems, or else if people wanted a superior experience they'd just go for pc, both sony and microsoft seems to have forgotten the real definition of a home gaming console.

I'm honestly disappointed, never owned an Xbox but its had a reception of being bad and the overhype in my opinion and having to wait years for it to come out make it even more note-worthy. That's just me though. Its like they just said "Hey! Why don't we make a N64 Add-On Pak for the Xbox" The thing that played ocarina of time? on N64 Hardware? No?
