Question: If I downloaded a game from freeShop without paying for it previously, is that illegal?
You know, whenever I see these random new users post obvious questions about being banned or the legality of Freeshop, a BIG part of me wonders if that's some of Nintendo's lawyers trying to gather information or evidence. I got my eye on you guys [emoji58][emoji57]

"Wonders"? Without a doubt Nintendo's lawyers are doing that. But they can't stop people from downloading games for free. It doesn't matter if Cruel gets a cease and desist, it will not stop people from pirating games.

Only if you use a flashcart. No need to worry if you're using installed versions.
Those people got banned for playing a game that wasn't released yet and against warning from Nintendo not to play online. Not sure if Durantis mentioned the don't play online part.

Someone didn't bought it/didn't share the keys yet that's for sure. Unless someone purchase it legit, and share it on the title key site, it wont be able on freeshop. You're better off downloading it on that iso site if you want that specific version.

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
