Why so fucking long?
I'm personally hoping that there's some specialness that they're hoping to keep hidden from other microsoft and sony. I mean, speculation about the Switch has turned more to specs and potential, as there seems to be a consensus that the only hook is the mobile/home thing. I'm personally still hoping for some haptic feedback.

What needs to be revealed?

1. A decent starting price point. Don't make the same mistake twice, Nintendo. A higher price point for something lacking in power will leave a sour taste with consumers.

2. For the love of god, promise us AT LEAST a 7-10 hour battery lift off the dock. If not, the portability will seem a lot less pleasing.

3. An amazing launch bundle. You're competing (again) with consoles already ahead of you. Your quality needs to shine through here.

I honestly feel like this is Nintendo's last chance at making a positive, long lasting impression on their consumer base.

Unless you talking about small games and apps, otherwise that just isn't going happen. Like period. Even the 3ds doesn't have that much battery power.

I would be really surprise, if you could play Skyrim on the go while still having 7 to 10 hours of battery life.

Mileage may vary. Should have said 6. Anything less is just pathetic.

As if my Alienware laptop can exceed barely 4 hours, let alone 6 on a full charge playing Minesweeper.

Frankly, I'd rather compare Switch with a gaming laptop running 720p30FPS playing an AAA title to keep my expectations low for "minimally lowest acceptable tolerance". If the Switch exceeds the laptop I chose to compare, then anything else at that point is acceptable in my standards.

I said 30FPS, because I rarely see AAA console games running at 60FPS, on any 720p or above resolutions.

What if the reason they are holding off on such information is because they are gauging what social media and the internet in general is saying about the Switch?

That would be presumably the best way to gauging the expectations for the price. Hardware specs are not given because the resources for the hardware is not ready yet. Go check the Nintendo Dev Portal, Wii U, if you're wondering why.

7-10h is ridiculous.

I'd be happy with 4h, 3h would still be OK, since I can charge it using a powerbank.

And, seriously, how long are you away from a power source? For longer travels you can use a battery pack, as I said.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
