I find it hard to like. They have made a lot of compromises in order to have those two small detachable mini controllers for multiplayer.
Lack of: d-pad, dual screen mode (like DS or Wii U), backwards compatibility (for not having dual screen mode), cameras, motion controls / touchscreen (we still need confirmation of that).

Now I want to buy a Wii U on the cheap just to play Zelda: Breath of the Wild, since I won't have the touch inventory and map view with the Nintendo Switch.

I agree cuz I'm a d-pad gamer, but I'm not afraid to try new style, just hope its has great grip, when I'm playing with ps4 the stick is really hard to use specially in estimating the moving distance,

So far I'm disappointed at the lack of backwards compatilly, but if the console doesn't have a good Internet Broswer, runs on Nintendo Network, all the services from Wii U and 3DS(like Miiverse, Friend List), and a Youtube/Netflix app, fuck this shitty console!

Seems to be sacrificing a lot of features to make this work and no backwards compatibility is really holding me back. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed and enjoy the 3DS and Wii U, but I only have mind/pocket/time space. Not to mention the other things I have.
I do not know about Wii u but 3ds is entirely possible so is DS. There is a 7 inch screen and can be divided into two 3.5 screens easily.

Nintendo already confirmed a single display experience and the fact that isn't compatible with the 3ds and ds physically. Now they could still do it digitally, but they haven't said yet.

this is for you then.

I really like that you posted this, cause i didn't remember the name. LOL. Yeah, this Project Discovery was the prototype for the Nintendo Switch. Early in 2014 there were some rumours about AMD having designed a custom SoC for a big console vendor for mobile. We all assumed this would have been the 3DS successor. It seems Nintendo did want the Switch to come with AMD hardware initially(AMD has supplied the gpu for Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U), but Nvidia (who are so angry that they had no recent console victories) must have priced Tegra quite aggresively and offered tons of incentives (like the creation of an ecosystem of libraries for the console, instead of Nintendo having to write them themselves) to replace AMD.

To be honest, Tegra as a chip is a flop. It is strong on paper, but there is a reason not a lot of 3rd party manufacturers use it for Android devices. In the real world it runs too hot, it never reaches its full potential, and sometimes has inconsistent performance. And it is too expensive. Hence, Nvidia themselves are the main vendor for Tegra devices, and they are not exactly a huge success in the market.

AMD might have no history in the ARM space, but they have tiny x86 cores that could be used for tablets, bigger x86 cores for the home console, are more experienced with HBM RAM. And they have no history of screwing console partners, like Nvidia. Microsoft worked with Nvidia, not anymore... Sony, the same. Everyone gets burned by them. It is Nintendo's turn... You can bet the farm on the fact that AMD SoCs will be in Xbox Two/PS5... If Nintendo ever produces a Switch successor, i am willing to bet it won't have Nvidia inside. Let's wait and see.

Anyway, Nintendo is a greedy company, they don't care about their hardware, as long as it is cheap both to acquire and to develop for. So they picked Nvidia, but this has the downside that Nvidia has no x86 SoCs, so they can't make a home console. AMD could make the best hybrid console systems, two separate consoles, one with small x86 for the portable and one with big x86 for the home version. They could run the same games, the home console could have been competitive with the PS4Pro for the same price, and the portable could have smashed the Vita for a similar price and be its own segment. They could have one system to write games for and run them on 2 consoles with just different levels of detail. Only downside that AMD most probably wouldn't offer them libraries, Nintendo programmers would need to write them.

So we get this failure, which will be the laughing stock of the industry, exactly like the Wii U was. You think this hasn't been made before? PSP and PS Vita don't ring a bell? PS Vita is a similar handheld that came out a few years ago, has a tablet SoC and is a bit smaller than the Switch, and can output to the TV, with the minus that the controllers aren't detachable. And it was cheaper than what the Switch is going to cost, and had a vastly cheaper library of games. Switch is dead on the water, trust me. Don't preorder it, you will get burned.

Really? Oh shit I thought n's would cover up me not purchasing n3Ds.

I guess not :(.

The DS line is officially dead. And don't expect many more games to arrive for the 3DS, i suppose that early 2017 will be the last games from Nintendo, with a few more months for games from 3rd parties. There is a reason for the drought of games for both the Wii U and the 3DS the last 2 years. Nintendo and partners pulled support from those in order to develop for the Switch.

Which makes me angry and less willing to support Nintendo as a company. How they treated their Wii U fans is disgusting. The thing has so few games, and 2 and a half years since its launch, they decided to drop major software support for it(outside of 1 major title per half a year) and begin develop for the successor. They even made sure that the next Zelda would be a Switch launch title. Disgusting. Zelda was supposed to arrive years earlier, but of course screw Nintendo fans who bought that overpriced POS console, we have a new toy to sell now...

Just don't buy this until you are sure it will get support, it has PLENTY of good games already, is cheap enough for the hardware, and it gets hacked. If there are no flashcarts for it, or CFW, i won't buy it.

you know we don't need backwards compatibility. Its called keep your old consoles....

Old consoles do not always last like they used to. I for one am glad Xbox One plays Xbox 360 games although limited in selection as the 360s have a poor life span.

On the Nintendo side of things

Some Gamecubes and Wii's that work are suffering from aging lasers for some reason (The PS1s I have work fine) and need tweaking to read discs without errors.

This is why I like BC
Nintendon't is great as GameCube and Wii can be moved to the newer Wii U hardware so it lasts a bit longer.

NX was the codename. Switch is NX.

Well, the other reason it's unnecessary is that Nintendo has Mario/Zelda/Smash/Metroid/Pokemon games for every one of their consoles anyway, and on the Switch they'll be far superior graphically compared to the 3DS. Just about all the popular stuff from WiiU will be ported over, eventually they'll stop making WiiU games assuming Switch outsells it, and I think that's likely.
