When using Mednafen PCE Fast and playing Castlevania Rondo of Blood i keep getting some weird Input problems where my character is constantly ducking and getting up without me pressing anything.

Other emulators work fine. Whats going on?

EDIT: Apparently it stops doing that when i press the ZL Button on my new3DS. Still no idea why though.

Well, the crashes only seem to affect certain games. Fore example, I can get through FFVI, Metroid ZM/F, Mother 3, and all the GBA Castlevania games fine, but SMA4 and Golden Sun crash pretty quickly after booting. On FE though, if it's the first USA FE game, mine also crashes pretty quick, but FE Sealed Sword works okay. I also noticed (don't know if it makes a difference) but all the games that crash for me have a config entry in game_config.txt, while the ones that work don't.

This is interesting. I've only been trying the first FE, as well as the Japanese exclusive FE6, which presumably runs on the same engine and has the same problem with gpsp. I'll have to try running some other games and see if I have the same issue or if it's exclusive to a subset of games.

If that's the case, maybe some dev could come up with a simple fix.

Truthfully, the CIA version of gpsp is far superior to agb_firm. Access to the home menu, sleep mode, and turbo mode are all reasons to use retroarch over injections.

I also get crashing with the CIA version of gpsp while playing Drill Dozer. Mother 3 is fine though.

While we're complaining about gpsp, another gripe I have is that if you suspend the software and go to the home menu, the top screen will be black when resuming. (This goes for all cores)

This probably isn't any use to you but I've found that writing a save state for PC Engine CD titles screws up the input (similar to what you're describing) and renders further playing impossible. It's not really a biggie (along with the lack of true 1:1 pixel mode and CD games freezing the system upon closing). I just know that writing a save will kill the game via input meyhem.

I actually figured out how to make it work now. For some reason pressing ZL (second left shoulder button) returns everything to normal.
Using Save states works for me, but i am playing around with audio settings right now. Game audio tends to crackle at times. I put audio latency up to 80ms, that seems to fix it, but i need more testing. That didn't fix it.

PS: Love your Display-picture! ; )

Interesting. I wonder if saving has always borked it for me because since day one I've always had write / load save states mapped to ZL and ZR and these inputs just don't play nice with PCE CD games on this particular emulator somehow. Looks like I need to do some testing!

And thanks for avatar shout. PC Engine iconography rocks my balls.

The PC Engine was a terribly underappreciated console during its time.
I love how people nowadays realize how amazing it is, but sadly thats a double-edged sword.
Finding a Turbo Duo/PC Engine Duo for an affordable price is near impossible.

Also have you considered that maybe ZL is double-mapped? Firstly to save-state functionality, secondly to whatever makes the input go crazy?

By default, pressing ZL switches between normal PCE gamepad and the six-button PCE gamepad.

I've read messages around the place saying that retroarch CIA's aren't working on 11.0 update.

All retroarch cores that i use are working fine here on my New3DS Gateway emuNAND 11.0.

I'm using the releases by Aliaspider when they first enabled 3D (18th April) if that matters.

Even PCSX, gpSP, and Picodrive? These are the ones that shouldn't be working, in theory.

@Xdqwerty there is health behaviour you can add to your character, then to use a health bar is lil more complicated, google n watch a few tutorial video on it, be too hard to explain here.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the character has the health behavior
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I know you have to create a health and health max variable. Then there is a calculation you use in code to subtract width size of the health bar. Google few vids.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, the "greenflatbar" is one of the preset health bars btw
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you can use any bar/sprite. It will just change the width. Ok good luck and have fun. I'm off to go shoot some pool at the bar. Talk to you later.
