I solved my update problem, see Plailect's reddit post. Switch DNS to auto because by default it doesn't auto-obtain it. D'oh!

Might I suggest this get added either to the Troubleshooting section or as an additional note to step 27 of part 3?

Anyone can help me find out why I can't seem to downgrade RedNAND to 2.1?

I am using a brand new US N3ds XL, following Plailect's guide and have successfully downgraded from 10.7 to 9.2 sysnand and upgraded emunand to 10.7. Everything was going smoothly, until On part 4 getting OTP, downgrade section:

11. If you encounter an error at any point during the downgrade, restore your RedNAND backup from emuNAND_formatted.bin using OTPHelper through the Homebrew Menu on SysNAND. Afterwards, you can retry the downgrade on RedNAND, restoring from backup whenever it fails until it goes through successfully. This downgrade process can take many many tries in some situations, just keep trying until it works.

I have already tried 5 times, and every time after pressing x to downgrade in PlaiSysUpdate, it would only go up to checking update integrity before the top screen turns black and gives me a error on the bottom screen. ( see photo )
I positive the 2.1 U downgrade file is good, I have downloaded another 2.1 U downgrade just in case, and the size matches. From looking around for potential causes, could it be this step from Plailcet's guide that I didn't' do?

36. Remove any TWL modifications done to the device or PlaiSysUpdater will throw an error (if you have no idea what this is, don't worry about it; most users will not need to do this)

I didn't do the step because the only file that is ever on the system is the ones required by the guide, the system was brand new with nothing downloaded to it beforehand. Another cause maybe is from latest Luma3DS blocking FIRM0/FIRM1 patches?

"One Click Setup" includes unbricking if necessary (i.e. if you're using an N3DS or N3DS XL).

I downgraded, it crashed with a 'please hold the power button' message, got a frankenfirmware, but plaisysupdater keeps freezing on 'hax init'. What should I do? I just re-copied the hbl version of plaisysupdater and redownloaded the 9.2 update pack.

Edit: SafeSysUpdater gets past 'haxinit' at least on the fw check, should I just use that? I have PSMD so I could update to 9.9 and try again, but would it be better to do it with safesysupdater?

Edit again: updated to 9.9 with psmd cart and still same thing, hax init not going.

thanks, problems resolved, but whenever i reboot to enter Emunand9 or Luma3DS, it is quite unstable, I took at least 2 attempts to enter the mentioned mode.

The current sd card im using is very small spacing as Im newbie to this, if i want to upgrade to larger space of sd card, which part should i restart? any files that i need to copy into the new card?

To enter what? Emunand9? Actually boot to the home menu?

As for upgrading to a new sd card. Are you using updated sysnand mode? If so you just drag you files o to the new sd card(once its formatted to fat32) if using an emunand you have to inject it into the new sd card(look in the tut section)

You should be safe as luma blocks a9lh from being removed. But a quick search to make sure its safe won't hurt

BTW, just one last question, if I download pokemon cia files and installed, can i go online in the games for battling or receiving gifts? and is there any recommended website to download free cia files?

Yes, either the iso site or the chaos site(they can't be linked here), just put the system before them when you google search. There is also the title key site and the CIA builders
