The important question is,
who actually plays 300 titles at the same time? Is it really necessary to have all this stuff installed at the same time? Is it a collecting habit I don't understand or what? Hell, there's maybe around 30 to 40 titles worth playing on 3DS. Please enlighten me.

Well i am just of the opinion that the sysnand arm9loaderhax master race isn't really the master race until this restriction is lifted, until then it seems emunand arm9loaderhax is actually the master race.

I think if ticket.db limit is reached, I wonder if it's possible to switch ticket.db on the fly, so if you have one game that's not in current ticket.db but in another one, you can switch to that other one on the fly ?

Yes, exactly. This may appeal to wider audience too. You could have a home menu for virtual console snes and another for GBA, etc all themed differently, even if it required a reboot to take effect it wouldn't be that bad, maybe you could even add your own splash screens for different home menus.

I think the 300 title limit is not simply a number in the home menu. It is based on the fact, that the ticket.db has a fixed size, that has only enough space for 300 titles.
no i wrote above, it has more space than 300 titles because the system titles are separate to the apps on the home menu.
also, new system titles can be installed in system updates. 300 is only the number of 'icons' we can have on the home menu

yeah, someone mentioned tickets - the ticket.db seems to be a fixed size whether or not you have 40 tickets or 200 tickets.
if you somehow remove the limit and install 5000 games, the system would not be able to cope so the fix won't be as simple as you say.
the ticket.db can hold more than 300 tickets, because the 300 limit is only for apps that we see on the home screen and all the system apps that we don't see also have tickets.
but still, because the ticket.db seems to be a fixed size it won't be able to hold above X tickets, i have no idea what that number is though.

Well it seems to work fine if you install >300 games using DevMenu or FBI. Unless those aren't writing to ticket.db since they're not legitimate?

It's probably multiple places. I know the home menu itself has that limit, hence my screenshot... the eShop just respects that. Whereas if you use a CIA installer to force more games, they will work, just that the home menu starts hiding older ones to show the new ones!

I'm sure there are a few places it's at.

Ah, I didn't know that, the largest I've seen was 256 but I haven't been shopping around recently either. I have a 128GB for my camera, phone and 3DS and really don't need a much bigger one.

2TB MicroSD... I mean, in theory it's doable, we already have 2TB SSDs that Samsung's making, but be prepared to put down another mortgage to afford one. LOL
2TB SSD you say?

i tried to make it clear :)
the limit 300 icons on the home menu, but there still must be an upper limit to the amount of tickets we can have because (i'm pretty sure) the ticket.db is a fixed size.
we can have more than 300 tickets yes, we have tickets for the system stuff + possible to have 300 tickets of home menu stuff + when you uninstall something i think you keep the ticket anyway.
i'm just saying surely there must be a limit of the amount of tickets the db can hold, even if it is 800.
(legitimate content or not, you still need a ticket)

Yeah, I mean you can get a 2.5" 2TB one for a consumer laptop. The larger ones are still obnoxiously expensive and use special connectors. :P

Yeah, that's fine, obviously nothing can be truly infinite.

Sony raised their limit from 300 to 500 iirc.

Would be useful to do similar. I don't need it to be 9999999999 games, just something actually more reasonable. :P

I think we should generate many .cias w/ different title ids and install as many .cias until the 3ds decides to take a shit.

LOL

Be my guest.

I already notice that with 300, CIAs take longer to install (it just sits there doing nothing for about 30 seconds before starting to make progress in DevMenu, FBI does not have this problem), and SaveDataFiler just opens to a black screen for about 2 minutes before it shows my games.

But once you actually open a game, it works.

I'm right there with you OP, I'd really love the 300 title limit to be removed if possible. Plus, did you know your badges on your homescreen count toward that 300 title limit, so even if you want to go crazy with badges, you'll be told you have the limit at some point, even though there is no need for that limit.

Is there any progress on this manner, I'd love to be able to stop worrying about this arbitrary limit.

For now, the easiest way of bypassing the 300 title limit is to have an Emu/RedNAND for the other 300 titles, so SysNAND + Emu/RedNAND = 600 titles (or 900 if you have a second Emu/RedNAND.)

Anyone that has problems with the 300 game limit has a severe case of what I like to call DOWNLOADAMANIA IE it's free so I must no matter what download it and install even if 90% of what I install will probably never be played more than a few times its totally pointless you are all better off having say round about 100 or so games installed and when you get bored of some of them remove them and put a new game on. And keep all your cia files on your PC that way if you do remove a game and want to play it in the future just reinstall the cia. Let's look at it another way so for instance you get a new girlfriend/boyfriend would you go out and buy 300 condoms and expect to have use for them all at the one time?? No you would not (if you did though have found the right person lol) no you would buy what you need and probably a few extra just in case you need them why should it be any different for the 3ds you install what you will play plus mabye a few extra games then when you are done with them you can delete them and put some new games on. The other problem is some people are never happy say someone does manage to increase the 300 limit to say 600 then someone will bitch and say 600 is not enough I need 900 that is what is going to happen and like I said nobody needs 300 games as you will never play them all on a continuous basis so remove some that you don't play then in future if you do then want to play them install them then. Or the really easy solution would be to just set up emunand on another sd card and problem solved access to space for another 300 games. The main problem with this world is people try to come up with solutions for problems that have already been fixed with by either using common sense or other means like I have said either delete stuff that is not used or use another sd card PROBLEM SOLVED.
Yeah, I do kind of feel an emptiness as I never get to actually focus on only one game. I'll take your word sir! I'll just put all the games I'm not currently playing in a seperate folder! :)

I know that this is an option, but its not ideal. I really would prefer if everything were accessible from one menu, instead of having to turn off the 3DS and turn it back on and then know to enter the other NAND to access a handful of other games. Ideally my 3DS should be something I can lend to my young nephew and he'll be able to see all it has to offer without having to fiddle around with boot up settings. And really one of my main desires is to be able to go crazy with decorating the home menu with badges, but badges placed on the menu count toward the 300 title limit.
