You can't inject FBI into the N3DS H&S app. I tried that. It said that the H&S app was missing the TMD.

I'll see if I can try it in Ninjhax 1.1; see if that makes any difference. It shouldn't.

You can, actually. My EmuNAND has the regular Health & Safety app replaced with FBI. I also followed Sgt. Lulz' tutorial on how to set up CFW, which actually said this was the only method for New 3DS users.

Granted, that was a while ago when the tutorial still recommended rxTools (it's been updated to use CakesCFW instead), but it should work fine if I recall correctly. I did have issues injecting it into my SysNAND's Health & Safety (it later turned itself back to H&S I think), but it might be because I missed a step somewhere.

Try using decrypt9 and universal injector to inject FBI into H&S app.

downgrading from 10.3 does go smoothly in comparison to 9.9 etc... I did an experiment w/ 4 new 3ds's that i was downgrading... (all were @ 9.9 fw), the two systems that i directly tried to downgrade directly from 9.9 would halt half way and black screen , w/ partial update
(safesysupdater). The kicker is the other 2 systems I did.. I first installed 10.3 on via sysupdater, and what do you know... both downgrades on the 2 that i first installed 10.3 on went smoothly w/ no hiccup. ... coincidence?? Maybe 9.9 has something that causes this?
This doesn't make sense if you point it to logic...First sysupdater works by installing cia's to the nand which is dangerous in any way,but updating to 10.3 using sysupdater is the same risk as downgrading from 9.9 to 9.2 since they both involve nands being modified

Okay, so I've set up Decrypt9UI, now what? What do I name the FBI .app and .tmd files on my SD card, so they inject into H&S?

Just use the normal, regular, original one, and make sure you MD5 check your files before you do, and you'll be fine.

Honestly it's all a matter of just having the correct files, if safesysupdater reported that, then you should be good. I used the original sysupdater which deleted all the new titles and then installed all the old titles, which if something failed would result in an instant brick. I'm pretty sure that every new sysupdater all use a method of deleting the old title and installing the new title one by one, and most importantly installing native_firm last.

Edit: there really is no 100% guarantee, just use safetysysupdater if it says you have the correct files. Downgrading is risky but if you followed every possible precaution and step beforehand you should have a good chance of success

Does SafeSysUpdater give me the ability to abort the downgrade if the files don't (appear to) match?

It checks them if the aren't correct it won't let you downgrade.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've downgraded 6 N3DS already three had 9.5, another one had 10.1, another one had 9.9 and one had 10.3.... here were the results:

3x 9.5 with Julian's SysUpdater (SULib one) ALL of them got into a Softbrick failing halfway the downgrade, just rebooted, entered HBL and did the downgrade again and successfully downgraded to 9.2.

10.1 one: Used SafeSysUpdater... downgraded AT THE FIRST TRY WITH NO HASSLES.

9.9 one: Tried ALL SysUpdaters found..... none worked... softbricked into Frankenfirmware.... used OoT3DHax and just out of the blue downgraded with no problems using Julian's SysUpdater (SULib one).

10.3 one: used SafeSysUpdater... FAILED got into softbrick and Frankenfirmware.... used same process as 9.9 one and got it to 9.2...

I guess it just depends of your luck?

I checked all the files 3 times AND transfered them with TeraCopy verifying every single file after the transfer.

I downgraded an O3DS from 10.3 to 9.2 using one of the first versions of sysUpdater and it worked first try.
Also downgraded my 9.9E N3DS using SafeSysUpdater, and it worked first time, so happy days lmao

@Daidouji Thnx for sharing your experiences with us. I'm currently preparing to install a CFW and emuNAND (yes, i've successfully downgraded my N3DSXL using sysUpdater-0.4.2b-libkhax-SAFEMODE-priority.zip after an initial "can't get CIA informations" and some black screens). It's a russian roulette, but luckely it survived :3

Okay, to get things straight, we have at least three separate things which may cause different versions to be more or less safe:
1) Whether it deletes all the titles before installing, or deletes and installs one at a time
2) Whether it checks to see if the files are valid before installing them
3) Whether NATIVE_FIRM is first or last or in the middle, and generally what order it does them

So we need a list of all the sysupdaters out there, and where each one stands on these three items.

(I used julian20's, but I wasn't downgrading, I was upgrading from 4.x to 9.2. It did not give me any problems.)

(I used julian20's, but I wasn't downgrading, I was upgrading from 4.x to 9.2. It did not give me any problems.)
My personal experience:

1.- I used Julian20's (SULib) one to downgrade and it NATIVE_FIRM AT THE END of the installation every single time! with 3x 9.5 FW consoles which failed mid-downgrade -> "softbrick" -> "boot without the sdCard, insert it once booted again to sysNand" -> enter via browserhax -> run sysUpdater and Downgrade again...... finishing the downgrade without a problem after that and as I said.. NATIVE_FIRM after installing the files at the end.

2.- I used one that deleted NATIVE_FIRM AT THE BEGINNING of the processs (this one lead to a softbrick which only left me recovery mode to get the console to work again... lucky me at that time the newer firmware version was 10.3 so no probs) <-- this one was downloaded from a "downgrade pack" from a youtube video tutorial I followed before finding this wonderful forum, this one was on 10.3 (first console I tried to downgrade ever).

3.- I used safeSysUpdater and it installed NATIVE_FIRM IN THE MIDDLE of the installation...... 10.1 downgraded without a hassle....
4.- I used safeSysupdater with a 9.9 Firmware N3DS and it failed miserably and ended in Frankenfirmware used OoT3D entrypoint and resumed with Julian's SysUpdater (SULib one).

4.- I had another 9.5 console I just downgraded like 10 minutes ago xD which used safeSysUpdater it failed after it NATIVE_FIRM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INSTALLATION and it ended up in Frankenfirmware... used OoT3D as entrypoint.... resumed downgrade again with safeSysUpdater.... downgraded without a hassle after that =)

so... that's my story :P xD

I'd like to manually update my EmuNAND from 9.2 to 10.3 because reasons, and I tried installing the 10.3 N3DS CIAs through DevMenu yesterday, but it just resulted in an emunand brick. Should I use sysupdater instead, while in emunand?
