Tutorial  Updated

Accessing eShop on older firmwares (New version)

https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/430l7j/tutorialaccessing_eshop_on_outdated_firmwares/

First of all, thanks:https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/42w1ys/you_can_still_access_the_eshop_on_103_by_updating/ I just wanted to make a more step-by-step tutorial for those who like them (like me).

So, note that: After this is done, any Homebrew app that needs to download a payload will get errors (ex. I was on 10.3.0-28E, now I am on 10.3.0-30E, and such a firmware version isn't supposed to exist). Don't worry, the same method used to change it can be used to change it back.

You'll need: NASA v1.2 -- https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-nasa-universal-cia-manager-for-fw-4-1-10-3.409806/3DNUS -- https://gbatemp.net/threads/3dnus.376488/ a 3DS with 10.3.0 firmware or less Homebrew access (Obviously)

How to do it:

1) Extract the "nasa" folder inside of the NASA 1.2 archive to your 3DS' SD Card. Place it under sd:/3ds , as you would with any other Homebrew App. 2) Extract 3DNUS somewhere on your PC and run it (3dnus.exe) 3) Open this page:http://yls8.mtheall.com/ninupdates/reports.php

4) Look for the latest system update for your console (don't mix new3DS with old3DS! PAY ATTENTION TO THIS! 2DS is old3DS, by the way). At the time of writing, the latest update is 10.5.0-30. Click the release date next to it to open the next page.

5) Pick your region (E is USA, P is EUR, just open the links if you are unsure, it says on the next page which region the titles are for). Click on the date under the "Report" tab for your region's update, and look for a title named "NVer". If it is there, skip step 6.

6) If it isn't there, go back to the previous page, and, under your region's line, click the date on the "Titlelist" tab. Look for "NVer".

7) Once you've found NVer, check the version number (under "Title version"). For me, latest version has number 480.

8) Open 3DNUS and write the version on the textbox with "version:" above it.

9) Go back to the page with the titles, and look at NVer again. To the left, there's a tab called "TitleID". Copy the title ID for NVer and paste it to 3DNUS on the Title ID textbox.

10) Make sure "Pack into CIA" is ticked, and click "Download".

11) Once the download is complete, copy the .CIA file on the 3DNUS folder to the SD Card of your 3DS.

12) Put the SD Card back into your 3DS, and start Homebrew Launcher using your preferred entrypoint (I recommend either Menuhax or Ironhax).

13) Select the NASA application, and start it. If you get a black screen or it hangs (it's rare, but it sometimes happens, especially if you use v1.2, it seems less stable, or if you use browserhax, install Menuhax, browserhax doesn't work properly with this), hold the POWER button and retry after restarting the 3DS.

14) Once you're in NASA, use the arrow keys to highlight the CIA file you have (In my case, the file I got was 000400DB00016102.cia). Click "L" to disable Security Mode, and then "R". On the top screen, it should now say "Install to: NAND", with red letters.

15) Click A, and click A again to confirm installation. It should take no more than 1 or 2 seconds.

16) Hold the POWER Button to shutdown the system.

17) Check System Version on the Settings app, it should be different now! For me, it went from 10.3.0-28E to 10.3.0-30E.

18)Use eShop/any app that complains about not being updated to latest system update through HANS (although users have reported them to work from Home Menu directly, give it a shot!)

19) Done!

Thanks to all that helped me. I made this so it'd be easier for others. Ask me any questions you might have.

Seeing this updates the 3DS to 10.3.0-30, shouldn't ninjhax users n such update the payload to accommodate 10.3.0-30?
no. I'm using the payload for 10.3.0-28.

Does this work on firmware 9.2?
I dont want to flash the 10.5 NVer if its going to brick 9.2.
it should. But... if you're on 9.2, why would you want to do this? On 9.2, you can use an emuNAND with the latest version anyway

I suppose there might be a chance. Don't worry, as long as you follow the instructions, you should be good.

I use sysnand for nearly everything. I only use Emunand for games that dont work on 9.2 and downloading from eshop.
So, as I use sysnand I need a way to get the tickets from the eshop so games downloaded in emunand work. before 10.5 came out I used NVer v29 (10.3 version?) and accessed the eshop via homebrew launcher. It wouldnt download games as it always gave errors but if you told it to download in sleep mode it did download the ticket. Then you go to Emunand and download what you want. When you go back to sysnand the downloaded game will now work.

If you dont get that ticket in sysnand everything you download in emunand doesn't show up. if it does show up it doesn't work.

I want to know if NVer v30 (10.5 version) works on 9.2 or will it brick?
Some games need the latest firmware to work, so will NVer v30 only work on 10.3 and above as others have said or will it still work on 9.2 as well as nobody has confirmed so far?

Great. I'll download it and install it then. :) Thanks

EDIT: I can confirm if you access the eshop your DLC you installed via CIA will be wiped.
Just reinstall them and they still work fine.

I've been using this for months on sysNAND on O3DS...
yes, but this hasn't been spread so much, has it? It's good to have something like this be widely known. Especially because a lot of people used HANS spoofing before, and didn't know about updating the NVER.

Previously, when I try to download something while in the eShop via HBL, I get Error Code: 007-2920. Will this method resolve this issue? Also, in the OP, it says that "the same method used to change it can be used to change it back." So, this method is reversible and makes no permanent changes?

This worked great for me. Thank you. I got Badge Arcade, Eshop and Shuffle to work online again.

Edit:
I had to use HANS for the Eshop after doing the above steps.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.

Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
