Mind helping me out? I edited the friendly token number (the only thing I plan on modding as it's the only item I won't be able to obtain. Silly Nintendo assuming people have friends...), but when I put the save back in my game it isn't corrupted, but I also see no changes...

Are you using the same hex editor?

Just make sure it's on "Offset 234" then change the existing thing to "0F" then just drag drag and drop into the application then put back in the save

I get an error when opening my savedata.bin.
I've also tried opening my regular encrypted save file, but it gives me an error about the file size. Help with the GUI?

The program caps it at 255, which is the maximum the value can be (FF if you were hex editing)

the folder for the US version is 176f export it then copy the Savedata.bin it creates to your PC and edit with Kaph's tool and you should be good to go.
