FIXED! Notification box icons: help us find better ones

DISCLAIMER: this thread is not about whether you like the notification box or not, or about you wanting it removed. The notification box will be discussed in a separate thread, this thread focuses on the icons only. Thank you for respecting that

The icons of the notification box are from an old copyright free icon set.
We couldn't produce better ones (due to the lack of a graphic designer in the team) so we had to resort to these:

Feel free to suggest better ones, designing them yourselves or selecting them from a commercial-free & copyright-free source.

I imagine a website that earns revenue through banner ads would qualify as "commercial use", even though Costello and co. aren't exactly selling the icons with a software or anything.

If we do decide to use a set that requires giving credit, why not just find one that is incredibly varied in what it offers so that we could continue utilizing the same set without having to pull from another and credit yet another source? It seems like the easiest solution past somebody just making the icons from scratch, as otherwise it doesn't seem like we're going to find good icons without the price of at least granting credit to the creator(s).

This pack is completely free. No crediting needed at all. The forum can even use the other icons of the pack, in another occasion if needed..

I just checked every icon and I cannot seem to find any suitable replacement for the notifications icon.

there's one. It's a hotel bell. I already did the set with it.. ...but I'm doing another set with a more classic bell that I'm drawing myself too (I'm doing some other icons too myself)

I'm finally done!

It took some time... but here are all the revisions that I made:


- Two with slightly different icons for Filetrip upload

- Two with a new Alert icon and different icons for Filetrip upload

- And here are all the above, but without the "plus" in the Filetrip's icons

- And, with another Filetrip icon

I hope those are enough choices... ...I recommend changing to the Light and Dark themes, just for reference.... so you can have a better view of all the icons, in a darker and lighter bg.

I'm finally done!

It took some time... but here are all the revisions that I made:


- Two with slightly different icons for Filetrip upload

- Two with a new Alert icon and different icons for Filetrip upload

- And here are all the above, but without the "plus" in the Filetrip's icons

- A new Filetrip icon (if you prefer to use this arrow icon with one of the variations above, just tell me).

Thanks I had to tweak and create more then I though initially, but I think they look good now

....I just added the last variation ...there are 10 now for people to choose from! ...it should give me enough time to rest a bit

Well, I wanted to point out that there's another set of icons that need to be looked at too... from the Homescreen

Btw, about the icon sets that I posted before, I'm not just copy-pasting the icons from the icon-pack... ...I'm using them as a base, but changing color, gradient, opacity, sharpness and doing new icons from scratch.. I could even change the shape of all of them if what people wants is exclusivity... ..the main reason I'm using the pack anyways is to keep the overall look as a base.. ..cause I liked their overall look.

I think the icons for the recent content are fine, as they are simply the symbols from their individual section. There is no clearer or more accurate way to label those without going through and changing the symbols in the forum itself. Nobody seems to have a problem with the rest of the icons though, so I'd say only the corner bar needs to be worried about.

You mean, by just changing this two images?

..I don't see the problem.. ..and changing those two would be enough, afaik

the flags will still need to be colored, or kept simple enough to keep their meaning.
they are used on the Ask.gbatemp to determine if the answer has replies or any reply marked as best reply.

Even though these look great, they want flat, not realism (glossy).
