Sorry I put this thread here. It's just that I couldn't find the PS2 category.

Hello:
I'm trying to do the Agent Under Fire disc swap exploit so I can run Ulaunch.elf on PS2 Slim SCPH-70011 but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I extracted an ISO of my black label copy of Agent Under Fire and I replaced DRIVING.ELF with BOOT.ELF through Apache after changing the toc to the proper size and renaming the BOOT.ELF. I burnt it using IMGBurn at 16x onto a single layer ONN brand DVD+R. I blocked off the sensors and ran the Agent Under Fire disc until the mission select screen where I quickly swapped out the disc and started the second mission. It got stuck on a black screen and I'm not sure what to do. Can someone give me a hand and tell me if I'm doing something wrong? I had to play the first mission so I need to justify buying the game and putting up with that punishment

You'll have to re-trace your steps and retry - you must've made an error while creating the ISO or the burning the disc. The PS2 may be picky about the discs you use, so I suggest burning at a slower speed if you're having problems, although a good DVD-R should handle this just fine.

I actually used up all my dvd+r. I went to walmart to pick up dvds but all they had was onn dvd-r. For whatever reason, Imgburn won't burn on them. It gives me an I/O error. I used a different program called Free ISO Burner and burned at the slowest speed, 2x and the same thing happened. Is it possible just the brand or is my burner messed up or is it the program. If you know what an I/O error means than could you let me know how to fix it?

I/O Error just means input/output error. You should try burning another disc, preferably on a better medium. Use Imgburn and the slowest speed possible for the best results.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how you're supposed to dump the game, replace DRIVING.ELF with an uncompressed ULaunchELF file and burn the disc. Follow it and the exploit will work just fine:

All of the necessary downloads are in the video description.

Okay im on like my 7th dvd (it's okay cause i just got a huge spindle) and before i try this. I've been modifying previously modified iso's. Could that maybe be the issue?

Yes, that could be the issue because you don't know where the ISO came from - you should've grabbed a clean ISO rip. If you don't have one, rip your own disc - it just takes a moment of your time and at least you know it's clean.

well, what i actually meant was. I ripped my copy, modified it and replaced DRIVING.ELF with BOOT.ELF thinking that was what I was supposed to do so I replaced that file (on that same iso) with the uncompressedBOOT.ELF on my second go and have been working from there.

I see. Well, follow the tutorial (along with the patching!) and re-try the procedure - perhaps your rip didn't go well (remember to tick the Verify option). You're supposed to use the uncompressed ELF file, rename it to DRIVING.ELF, change the filesize in the ToC, replace the file, save the doctored ISO, patch it with the patching tool, burn it and then use the disc on the PS2. If this fails again despite following the video guide, there is something wrong about the discs you're using. Don't go for no-name brands - put your money on Sony, TDK and other respected media manufacturers.

Yeah, it's the dvd's. I know ulaunch works cause i opened it in an emulator. I tried two different burners at their slowest supported speeds and a host of other things. I'll try to see if walmart will take them back (i have all the packaging) and I'll try to get some real dvd's off amazon cause the only ones I can find at all the stores I checked are these and memorex (i heard they're really crappy). Have any recomendations?

I personally use Sony discs to great effect, but I don't generally burn DVD's, only CD's for my retro systems. I'm sorry to hear that the procedure was unsuccessful. I hope you'll manage to pull this off - I've done all I could to help.

you could always look for someone nearby who has a modchip willing to install it to your memory card.

The only person I know who can do that is my sister's boyfriend but he lives like 5 hours away and is way too busy with school and work. I almost got him to lend me his copy of AUF and a working disc but he only comes over like once every other month and he forgot so I got to a point where it would just be easier for me to buy the game online. I can't drive so it makes things difficult

yeah, it surprised me that they failed. I used the same brand to burn a lot of Wii and Gamecube backups successfully. I actually didn't think about this til now but, my PS2 won't play DVD video but has no problem playing games cause they load just as fast as the Phat PS2 that my sister has

That's weird since PS2 games are on normal CD/DVD discs. You never said you had access to another PS2 - you can use it to make a multi-install to a memory card if you'll have better luck with it. Also consider gently cleaning the lens of your system with a q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol or any other high-proof spirit with no additives (avoid anything that might leave residue), perhaps your system just has problems reading burned discs in general.

Well I don't have access to it per say. As I said, it's my sister's. She would never let me do any physical modification to it. There's another PS2 slim at my place but I don't know where it is and the laser is even worse on that one. I'll see if i can get the laser cleaned up. I have a an audio cd with brushes that'll actually clean the lens but I don't know if it's possible to put rubbing alcohol on them

When using rubbing alcohol as "rubbing alcohol" check the contents - some have additives like glycerin or colouring which may leave a film or smudges on the lens - beware and polish gently with a clean, soft cloth (with no rough fibers that could scratch the lens) to make sure nothing stays on the lens and check the solution's contents.

okay so i got my sony dvd's in the mail today and i burnt my newly modded iso AT 3X, the lowest speed supported by my burner. I tried it again but same thing happened. I cleaned my lens and still the same thing happens. How long do I have to swap the disc anyways?

Assuming you did the step correctly and are using the Agent under fire method it should take only a couple of seconds till you see the ulauch menu.
Have you patched your ISO with ESR patcher? I had the same problem as you until i patched the ISO, burned it and then it worked. And if so, is it the lastest version?
