They're making a huge mistake by posting this unfinished source code on github. Sony isn't blind and they're going to look through it. They know their firmware, they know what exploit it uses by looking at the code and they will most likely be able to patch it.

Releasing unfinished source code for a loader is beyond me - this it a breakthrough and should be kept in secrecy until they're ready to unleash it, at least that's my opinion. Posting news about developments is one thing, posting code is another...

But then again, who am I to criticize? They're still doing a wonderful job.
Nope. The exploit isn't in there. This stuff is based largely on HBL code, and the way HBL works is there are individual exploits, and each exploit will have a corresponding h.bin file. The h.bin file (and it's source code) give away very little about the nature of the actual exploit. This source is essentially that part, and gives away nothing about the exploit. It's not giving anything away that's important, or not already in plain view in the HBL source code, it's just making collaboration possible.

Just what we need. Actual developers turning away from the Vita because of the greater possibility of piracy. Even if it doesn't, it won't matter to them as they'll see the device as being less secure.
Bull PSP had tons of developers and that was hacked since day 1. I remember having to swamp magicsticks.

It just costs a lot more to make a vita game, the sales are poor, smartphones might be taking over the market somewhat and can be more profitable(argurable) but sales might pickup during the holidays attracting devs. Actually most of the big name developers are there the smaller ones are just dying ya my bad.

Then how do we know that this isn't fake? In fact, how come no one has 'called BS' already as so many did in all the 3DS threads? Hell, the Crown3DS thread was accused of being fake 1 post in, and they had video. O.o

I must be missing something here.

Vita is already doomed. A hack actually gives it a chance at life. So...VITA SAVED?

That was a preemptive statement to keep that BS out of this thread. (albeit a weak one) Not an excuse for you to start your hate march against Sony again.

Wah wah, I hate Sony. bitch, moan, etc. God, get over it already.

There are hardly any devs committed to the system anyways. If anything, this will increase sales from those who want homebrew.

I'm not sure about Sony, but before releasing the 360, Microsoft commented that the whole game plan around any video game consoles was to take a hit on the hardware hoping to make up for it in game sales. If that's the case with the Vita then even if this means more console sales for Sony, that doesn't necessarily mean more earnings for them, possibly more losses, in fact.

Personally, im in this for the emulators way more then the piracy of vita games right now. And no, its not a whole "LULZ CUZ VITA GOTS NO GAEMS" Thing, its just that I would much rather be playing some amazing old school games in the palm of my hand on a super powerful device.
And I understand a laptop can do this, but a laptop cannot fit in my pocket.
Did I cover all the bases to prevent stupid retorts?
I hope so -.-

Lol its actually kinda funny. Sony will be getting my money if this hacking works. Weird huh?
The console sells for a loss so they will be losing money unless people buy games and or their memory sticks. Plus you don't know what profit margins the memory sticks are so it might just be a loss, draw or lets say $5 profit each one at best.

A 3DS can.

Oh, You said powerful. TROLOLOLO.
This above is entirely made as a joke. If you take this post seriously you need to get out more.
TBH the Vita really doesn't have any games worth pirating. I have mine, and apart from Wipeout and maybe a few downloaded games I don't use it. I'll have my Paypal, and Besybuy's website open in the case of needing to buy whatever game as quickly as possible.I'm

It's kind of fuzzy whether or not the Vita sells at a profit. I don't think an official statement has been made either way, but a breakdown of the components has been made, and the conclusion is that without R & D costs, various factory costs or labor, the vita is manufactured for least $100 cheaper than it's sale price.

Now, I know with almost unwavering certainty that the memory cards are cheap as chips to make, but in a free market, Sony is free to charge whatever they like for them, since there is no competition for them, and it might very well be one of their only means for profit on the Vita.

http://www.examiner....profitable-3yrs I guess it could be false and ya I figure the memory cards are fairly cheap but you really don't know if it covers the loss from the Vita being sold at any rate I doubt they get much from the two combined. Then again it doesn't say how much they lose but then again no one knows for sure but Sony no reason to talk about something when we have no real accurate data to back it up.

Yifanlu is the same developer for known famously by Xperia Smartphone user for developing "PSXperia"! It pretty much converts PSX .bin and .iso files to a playable format through the native Playstation Certified app, if he managed to do the same for the Vita I will buy one :D

If true, 3DS is more secured and at least it uses standard SD cards.

PS vita is pretty cheap second hand from what I've seen, easily to grab if people want one. I hope 6th gen console emulators are possible. If not dreamcast is good enough and sega saturn.

So I guess I should clear things up before this blows up.

1) We are in the VERY early stages. What we have is an ability to run code. That's it. It could take months before a stable loader could be created that runs homebrews, not to mention a toolchain to compile homebrews. In addition, at any minute, sony could either independently find the flawed game or through patching another element unintentionally patch our exploit.
2) Just like HBL, this tool cannot be used to load backups/pirated games/copies firstly because games are encrypted and second because we don't have kernel access.
3) I've seen the people working on the 3DS and I'm willing to bet we'll have a working 3DS hack before the Vita. neimod is way more talented than me.

The point of the post of wololo was to get other Vita developers who are working independently to come together.

Thanks!

Idunno' about the phone scene, but the possibility of hacks/exploits in the game system scene is often met with... lots of stupidity. I give it less than a day before somebody comes in and asks how long it is before they can run pirated Vita games. I mean there's even a sticky in the 3DS section stating that nothing runs 3DS games, but we still get people asking about it.

Generally devs in the gaming scene will find IRC and other methods of contacting each other to keep the idiots out. While I can applaud you giving the info out and looking for help, I fear you may get a lot more aggravating attention than helpful.
