Hey I am completely new to this, but am competent enough to learn so bare with me.

I recently purchased an xbox 360 for about $30.00, only problem with it is the DVD drive. Price is great so I can't complain about that.

The dvd drive would not open when you pressed the open disc tray button, so I figured I would just order a one online and swap it out.

I purchased a new DVD Drive, and was told that if I remove the board from the old dvd drive and replace the new board with the old one, that the DVD Drive would work fine, and the key would still match that of my xbox 360.

I did this, and the tray of the new dvd drive wouldn't open either. So I swapped the boards back, and tried to open the disc tray and it works. This leads me to beleive that there is nothing wrong with either dvd drive itself, the old board is just fried.

But it is my understanding that I will need to flash the dvd drive for it to read games, and to do so I need to dump the key from my old board and flash into the new one. But it is fried (Physically looking at it, it looks like some of the glue or solder or something has melted all over the board from the console overheating). So am I SOL? Is there no way to make it work without having access to the old key?

Make sure the DVD drives are the same, as in don't swap a Lite on with a Samsung or something. The 360 will not accept a drive from a different manufactuer unless it is properly spoofed. I am not sure if this would cause it to not eject or not. If it is indeed fried you can RGH the console and either keep it modded or grab the DVD keys and remove the mod.

Are you 100% sure it's fried? If it is then the only thing you could do is RGH it, and grab the Drive key for your system. Flash a new disc drive with the key. Turn the Xbox 360 back to Stock. (I think that's how it's done.)

I'm willing to give a shot extracting the drive keys from the drive myself, but if you are certain it's fried there's no point.

Yeah both drives are the same one.

What dashboard is your 360?
My dashboard is 2.0.15574.0

I'm pretty sure. physically it looks like something is melted all over the board, and it will not open when connected to either the old OR new dvd drive. both dvd drive trays open when used with the new board.

Guesss I wil try this reset glitch hack, then.

Yeah I just looked at a tutorial, told me about that.

and yeah the console is a phat, and was already updated to this version. So nothing can be done, hacking wise then? So if I want this individual console to play games, I would have to get a usb loader or something similar?

You need the drive keys for a ODDE which you don't have so pretty much all you can do is buy games digitally like GOD etc or try to dump the keys. If you have the right chipset just try it worse case it fails. Use the Jungle Flasher guide.

Slims aren't glitchable on 15572 iirc...

But yes.
You can dump the NAND of every console, regardless of dash/kernel.
Only thing is that you can't decrypt the KV which holds the DVD key.

Sorry OP but you're boned.
You could (theoretically) solder the flashchip off off the DVD drive and solder it onto another drive.
Maybe that way you could extract the FW.

He's going to send it to me to see if I can't extract the keys. We'll see if I can. I even have a spare disc drive I can flash with his keys, and send to him if it's the right drive.

Got it. Connected it to X360 USB Pro v2. Dumped the keys/OFW.bin after some fiddling around. Sending them to flame via PM ATM.

to avoid me starting a new thread i'll sort of hi-jack this one...

i have a jtagged console with a dead drive (i have no idea what the previous owner did to it but the sata connection has been completely snapped off of the board) - which is a samsung
and a dead console with a working drive - google tells me it's a hitachi hitachi
i know that i can flash the new drive if i go and buy a pci sata board and use jungle flasher (which i have no idea how to do)
but i was wondering if there's anything i can do from the jtag xbox to tell the drive key of the currently inserted drive (if i were to put the working drive in the jtag box) and then just edit the nand with kvmodder to reflect that drive's key...

Best thing would be to edit the KV and set the OSIG to match the DVD drive.
And fill in the DVD drives DVD key.

I have no idea if you can leave the DVD key blank but yes, you´ll probably have to get someone to dump the DVD drive for you.
Or do it yourself.

I wonder if that was the point of game streaming

    But it's a dead end

@Psionic Roshambo, people who cant download it can still play the game

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
