Well I played the demo and I'm not exactly pleased or disappointed. The framerate is noticeably lower than the other versions but is still perfectly playable (solid 30FPS vs. 60). The quality of the assets and the sound aren't that great but I assume that's because they compressed it for the demo. Frankly, Ubisoft did yet another lazy port considering Rayman Origins could easily run on a 3DS in 60FPS (it's not a demanding game). It's still Rayman Origins and if you want to play a portable version, this isn't a bad choice. Oh and there should totally be a zoom button.

Oh cool, glad I'm not the only one who thinks this demo blows. The controls are too slippery and unresponsive for a platforming game. And I'm sorry, but they should have just remade the whole game for the 3DS. Keep the art style, but up the resolution or something, everything is so fucking small on the screen. And that's not the 3DS' fault, it's more of it just being a bad port.
How can you "up the resolution"? The 3DS screen is 400x240, you can't change that.

Wrong word. I meant like make the game less blurry and shit, zoom in a little bit and stuff.

Ok guys, here is a view from someone who has never played a sidescrolling rayman game ever, iv also only seen 1 trailer footage of the original origins (So it will be unbiased)

First of all the game looks nice, 1st level looked very bright and colourful and the shade level had a really nice look to it. also the levels are well designed. The chase level in paticular was really fun to play and also quite challanging, took me several attempts to make it past the initial jump section but that brings me to my first negative point about the game.

The controls are AWFUL, there is a noticable delay from when you press a button to when its actually done on the game, if the same controls are in the retail game then this would be a dealbreaker for me, they are simply not good enough. While im on the negatives, i feel i must also point out how bad the sound is, it sounds pircing to my ears and i ended up turning the music off entirely on the 2nd level. (which is a shame since the music was goofy fun)

Also the 3D in the game is bad with way too many scenery items close to the screen, this makes the 1st level almost unplayable with the 3D on. Its also anoying on the 3rd level which is anoying because towards the latter stages of the level it becomes unclear which of the scenery you're supposed to fly past/shoot out the way, with the 3D on it becomes clearer but then the close up scenery objects become a problem again.

The game itself tho looks really fun, the chase part especially. i might just pick it up on another console based on replies in this topic, However on the 3DS it is certainly not worth buying in my opinion.

It's only a demo! I don't see what all the fuss is about (excluding the loading screen and the home screen menu tone)! The controls are simple and it's the perfect pick-up-and-play game! Platformers are my life, so don't ch'y'all be insulted my Rayman Origins!

The fuss is about how much of a downgrade it is to the other versions. It is a bit strange since the 3DS is stronger than the wii in some ways who's version is identical to the 360 and PS3 versions just not HD. Though maybe the demo is nothing to judge the real game by, maybe the game itself isn't flushed out.

It's better than having no Rayman Origins on 3DS at all! And also, it's JUST A DEMO! Look at the RE:R demo! It wasn't even an excerpt from the full game! It looked like BS compared to the real game!

The sound is probably compressed just like in the Revelations demo.
I remember that the enemies and shots sounded like they came from a GBA game in the demo but in the retail game the quality was excellent.

true and as I said a little ago for the price of 20$ it is in the range of an OK buy but saying its just a demo doesn't really free it from hate. Since a demo is suppose to give an idea of what the game is suppose to be.

Still I'm hoping the demo is just really compressed or something like that.

Downloaded it, played it and loved it. This was my first time playing Origins, and even though it looks compressed, I really liked it!
Yeah, the controls were kinda laggy, but it just needs some time to get used. I'm sure the real thing will run much beter/smoothly, because the demo is stored in a SD card, so of course it gets watered down. Since the game is designed to run off a 3DS gamecard, "porting" it to run off a SD card, which has slower acess speed, DOES kill some data quality and gameplay. (Well, at least that's what I think...)

Personally, I think it's a pretty lousy port of an otherwise great game. I can only see myself buying this if the issues I had with the demo are resolved, chief among them being the music glitch I had when getting the King Lum in the third level and the framerate crapping out with the slightest bit of action on screen. I hope that the reason they delayed it was because of the issues the demo has, because as it stands this is by far the worst version of Origins.

I hope you realize that this isn't a fault of the port but rather how the game is supposed to control (I've played the Wii and PC versions). He's supposed to be a bit "floaty".

I just played it myself. Yeah, super small characters and even some text in parts is smaller than it should be.
There's no reason the framerate should stutter in a game like this.
I'm talkin worse than MGS 3D imo.
Wasn't too impressed with pyramids demo either, but whatever.
Definitely not buying this one.

Can't really say much else that hasn't already been said. 3d is really disappointing. As proven by mutant mudds, sonic generations, and even kirby, you can do 3d in a 2d platformer and have it look cool.
Was Cave Story+ not very good?

Haven't played it, I was using personal examples.

Really would be nice to know if some of these problems (like visual quality, frame rate, etc) are the result of it being compressed for demo usage, or if this is what to expect of the retail game. Heck, what if this was actually an early demo version from months ago, before the delay was announced?

Had a go. I've already played the PC and Wii versions of the game. Not much I can say that hasn't already been said. 3DS version runs at half the framerate of all the others (30fps as opposed to 60), which is ridiculous. The visuals look blurry, even within the confines of the 400x240 resolution of the 3DS display. Even when zoomed in, the art looks muddy and low resolution. So it looks like they went in and messed around with the art assets themselves, it looks kind of nasty and i'm not sure why. I will say though that all the art pieces do seem intact. Sprites don't seem to be missing animation and all the backgrounds seem to be present. It just looks like watching a video of the console game on very low res 240p quality and lossy compression or whatever. Sound is low quality too.

The good news though is that it's still as fun as ever. Gameplay seems completely intact. Controls exactly the same and plays just like the other versions. So if for whatever reason this was the ONLY way to experience the game, i'd still say get it because Origins is a great game.

The feel of the game isn't any different than the other versions by the way. It's not floatier or anything. Compared side by side with the PC version, Rayman jumped, hung in the air, and landed at precisely the same time in both versions. Nothing was compromised in that aspect. Origins itself has a different feel from other platformers out there. It has different physics to it. The movement has a lot of momentum that can take a bit of time to adjust to. Platforming can require some skill and practice to get good at it. I'd say even if you don't like it for the first few minutes, give it some time.

I doubt the game will change any from the demo to the final game. The framerate I can't see improving any (that's not a compression related thing). It's possible the visuals and sound are compressed, but i'm not sure why they'd do it in the first place. Rayman Origins is like 50MB or so in size and there are other demos that are much larger. The largest 3DS eshop demos or games have been over 200MB I believe. I don't think they were given much of a size limit there so I don't see why they'd go out of their way to compress anything if they didn't have to.

I have to ask you, did you really not notice any delay at all when platforming?
Sure Rayman Origins is known for having bad controls and physics but I played it on PC and felt that my jumps were much tighter than on the 3DS, and I play a lot of platformers on my 3DS so it's not the system itself.

About the compression, it could just be an older demo not released until now. But it's probably thanks to the lazy devs.
Look at the top left corner where the Rayman head is, the quality is just awful. It's like if they took the Icon and converted the image format twenty times before putting in the demo.
