Also Protip: I read the reports from this section, but ignore what I consider to be petty bickering and/or bruised egos, and that's most of it.
Given the way things turned out I think it's a shame my report of xecutionx's post for being trollbait was ignored. The bait was certainly taken...

It wasn't ignored. It may not have been handled to your satisfaction, but you're not a moderator. Thank you for your spurious comment ;)

So if DML is going to have USB support soon then what does Devolution have over it?
Well, tueidj did mention (the possibility of?) using regular Wii controllers instead of GC controllers, which I don't think will be (immediately) possible with DM (no L, L stands for Lite, which was the SD version) - DM will have USB support, but not bluetooth as I understand.

I think that's probably the main thing, possibly some better/worse performance/compatibility. Until both are released, no one can really say for sure, not even the devs of the respective tools as they have not tried each others.

EDIT: On the flip side, DM, if anything like DML, will most likely be easier to implement in other loaders as it will (presumably) replace MIOS and therefore loading MIOS (and doing a few other little things) will be enough to load a GC game from USB, whereas it looks like Devolution will only work with the Devolution app.

DIOS MIOS has full HW access and only MEM2 access before running the game.
DM supports loaders, cheats, debugger, shutdown/reset via pad does devolution aswell?

Seems people missed a flaw about Devolution gfx glitches http://www.youtube.c...EkW_9mnU#t=640s how many games will have them?
Maybe it will be fixed before release aswell.

Maybe someone who has a clue should compare them.

At the moment, a hands on comparison of DIOS MIOS and Devolution is not possible. Given this fact, how could anyone be expected to make a worthwhile comparison?

My post wasn't intended to present a comprehensive comparison... more like a quick synopsis of a few differences. We'll only have a "clue" how they work once crediar andtueidj actually release something for users to compare with real games. Right now, all we have to go on are a few YouTube videos.

Well your synopsis is wrong, you're making stuff up, like the fact you made up of Devolution REQUIRING original discs. This has not been mentioned and should not be mentioned again since it will only go off topic about anti-piracy and people will get buthurt.

That's what tueidj implied in the release post:

http://gbatemp.net/t...284-devolution/

tueidj said:
WON'T: It's not going to be a warez loader. You will need to own (or at least possess) the games you wish to run. I don't plan to ask for any donations, although at some point if there's a particular game that someone wants fixed I might have to insist they provide it or at least the means for me to get it; I'm not going to fork out for a copy of MGS from my own pocket, for example.

Other than the above, I'm not commenting on this either way... except to say that it may be a relevant difference for those choosing between DM and Devolution.

So does that mean you must have the game disc in question inside the DVD slot in order to run said game off of Devolution?
That's where things get fuzzy... because one of the reasons tueidj mentioned behind making Devolution was to allow people with new (no-GC support) Wiis to play Gamecube games. These Wiis can't read GC discs.

On the comparison front, it looks like crediar is saying that DM will only support FAT file systems, not NTFS. If tueidj is using IOS, it should be easier to provide NTFS support for Devolution (which I would greatly prefer). Also, audio streaming support with DM doesn't look very promising. Personally, I'd like to find a USB solution for all of my Gamecube games so that I can forget about discs entirely, and some of them need audio streaming working to be worth playing.

Has anyone actually confirmed this? The pictures I've seen show that one of the chips on the drive controller board has been removed. I've also read user reports saying that the new Wiis reject Gamecube discs (spits them out).

Also, on the controller front, crediar is saying on YouTube that DM will not support classic controllers - just GC controllers - so this may be another point to consider for those choosing between the two. As mentioned above, I suspect that extra features like this and NTFS support will be much easier to implement in Devolution because it uses IOS.

NO, THEY CANNOT READ GC DISCS, The new Wii's will just spit the GC discs back out if you insert them. tueidj said you need to own the games you want to play (as with other loaders) and it's been mentioned way at the beginning that this was meant for the new Wii's that cannot play GC due to the drive and missing ports. But PLEASE, let's not turn this into an AP war.

It is possible that nintendo produces new wiis with different drive types
eg a old one that still reads GC (because the still have much stock or production capacity)
and a new one that does not read GC and is cheaper to produce (but they don't have enough production capacity yet)

That is a common tactic and would explain the conflicting reports

Sounds plausible.

A few weeks ago I softmodded one of the new (no-GC) Wiis for a friend. Never tried to load a GC disc to test. Even if it could read a Gamecube disc (or load DM/L), there's still the problem of having nowhere to connect GC controllers or memory cards.
