Pendulo Studios apologise for state of Tintin game ahead of launch

F-Uo0FUXoAAql28.jpg

On the day of the games launch, the studio behind Tintin Reporter - Cigars of the Pharaoh, Pendulo Studios; have issued an apology via their Twitter which states that those who decide to play their game on launch day "won't be able to enjoy the experience [...]".

They go on to state that the game is their most ambitious title yet and they are committed to fixing the situation via a string of "necessary" patches. The team have also suggested that users report any issues via their official channels.

Pendulo Studios said:
Hello everyone,

We want to share important information about our current release, Tintin Reporter - Cigars of the Pharaoh.

Despite our best efforts, those who play the game at launch won't be able to enjoy the experience as we intended it to be.

We are committed to fixing this situation in a promptly manner: we will deliver the necessary patches in the coming weeks while keeping all our channels at your disposal for any issue you want to report to us directly.

This is our most ambitious project ever, and we're putting our heart into it. We are devoted to paying the best tribute to the famous reporter and delighting you as a player, and we won't stop until we reach our goal.

Thank you for your support and patience.

This is the latest in a string of releases in what seems to be becoming an industry standard practice where unfinished games are being released with post launch support being required to pick up the slack.

Have you personally experienced any disappointment in regard to any recent games releasing in an unpolished state?

There's a new Tintin game out? I didn't even know.

And why did they make him a kid? That just ain't right as Tintin wasn't that young:

tintin-16x9.jpg

From Wikipedia:

Tintin's age is never specified.[44] Throughout the Adventures, published over 50 years, he remained youthful.[44] "Tintin was born at fifteen", says Assouline.[37] Hergé commented, "For me, Tintin hasn't aged. What age do I give him? I don't know ... 17? In my judgement, he was 14 or 15 when I created him, Boy Scout, and he has practically not moved on. Suppose he put on 3 or 4 years in 40 years ... Good, work out an average, 15 and 4 equals 19."[46]

Seems a strange one to knowingly release a broken game, then warn people about it on the day of release...

I can only presume the game is about to get slated in reviews, so would it have not made more sense to simply delay the game and release it when its actually finished?

This should not be the norm in gaming.

Companies need to stop doing this, it’s a terrible trend. Either delay the game or release a broken piece of crap and patch it later. Don’t apologise, I can’t play an apology, tell me when it’s ready and then I’ll play it. I’ve eaten many-a-dinners, but I’ve never been called to the table when the food was still raw.

It's getting ridiculous now that they are already apologizing before we even play

Soon they will be apologizing before launch day that the game won't be finished at launch

WTF is a Tintin?
He's like a French Indiana Jones or something.

They dubbed the cartoon series in English and it has been remastered in HD, but they cropped it annoyingly to widescreen so you lose the detail from the original 4:3 version.

Paradox also pre-emptively apologized for the state of Cities Skylines 2 before it released. It seems this is turning into a trend? Hopefully it's a trend that continues, so people know not to buy the game when it releases. It's a weirdly pro-consumer move lol

Honesty all this does is making me not buy games at release and wait a year or two or for a sale or price cut. Not that I was going to buy this game anyway when the comic and cartoon are better.

It's been the standard for a while unfortunately. Whilst it's commendable, a few studios have acknowledged and promised to support and fix their game, it's only a matter of time, before a dev abandons the game and their promise and we're even worse off than we were.

This won't change, the gaming sector is controlled by giant corporations like Sony, Microsoft, EA, even smaller companies who don't need to abide by factors which are standard in other sectors.

Things won't change, they'll only get worse, much more since the huge buyouts have been permitted.

Microsoft have now killed the small competition they have in Cloud gaming and are confident enough to walk back the quality and increase the cost.

in one way having update capabilities on a console is nice but on the other side it has given the developers the ability to do stuff like this. when is someone going to step in and regulate this where u have to release a playable game upon release date. we going to end up with more and more half finished work and games taking 1year+ to become stable.

they should have to refund people who paid for the game imo. they do it in other industries if they dont meet the bar of quality so why not in the gaming industry. if that type of pressure was on developers maybe they would go back to the days when they were completing games and actually "polishing" them before release rather than polishing them 2years after the game is released if they ever even polish the game.
