So, I've been getting more into actually buying games lately, to build up a collection. Unfortunately, in the farm town I'm located in, finding and acquiring the games for a decent price can be...challenging. I'm not counting online purchases here, as for the most part they cost just as much to ship as to buy.
This all changed, however, this week.
A new game store opened up around ten minutes away from me called "complete in box", and it's the best game store I've ever been to.
The place has walls upon walls of games for pretty much every console and a nice little selection of portable titles as well.
But, hey, seems like it's just any old gamestore, right?
Wrong.
The place also has a freeplay arcade (currently there's tetris, SoulCalibur II, Smash TV and Marvel Vs Capcom machines there), as well as a "lounge" area with a SNES, NES and Genesis hooked up where you can try any corresponding game in the store to assure it works fine, or just to goof off, as long as you want.
The best part of all though is surely the challenges and competitions.
Next week there's a smash bros tournament, free entry and for all three smash games. Of course ,the prize is store credit.
The standard weekly challenges are pretty neat as well. This week's was to beat mario circuit 4 in 2 mins 2 seconds or less in the original super mario kart for $5 store credit (not OFF, CREDIT, meaning you could literally pick up a five-buck game and walk out with it for free if you complete the challenge) I couldn't conquer it (likely because how I forgot to grind dash in the original) but I did see a top times list of toads all with times around 1:59 so it's rather possible. Next week's is likely going to be besting mike tyson in punchout, which, while surely a feat, is far more doable for me
So yeah. I got some games of course:
Starfox adventures for $6
Sly Cooper 1 for $4
Jak 2 for $4
Rayman 1 for PS1 for $5
this is tax included, and all the discs were run through an industry buffer so they play flawlessly.
You can't buy these this cheap online even (again, considering shipping prices) so I'll certainly be a return customer.
Of course, some titles are a little overpriced (metroid II was $13...yikes) but for the ones that aren't it's a phenomenal deal.
Oh, they also have a ton of rare titles in quite often, as well as repro carts. They recently just sold an earthbound and there's a few rarities like skullmonkeys and SMRPG sitting in the cased-up section.
But yeah, my life just got a little better. Wish me luck for the smash tournament!...better brush up
